Setting The Boundaries is the rebranding of an already successful local landscape construction company. The limited availability of materials and the ridiculous price increases has lead to a streamlining of services and a rebranding to reflect the services we offer. Naturally you can expect the same high quality of workmanship and finish as before but without the delays. So for a free competitive quote for any fencing, gates, boundary walls, retaining walls, garden walls, steps or raised beds please get in touch ASAP and the diary is filling up fast.

What's this on my news feed I hear you cry! Setting The Boundaries Fencing and Walling? Never heard of them! Well don't panic, its just Chris Quick Landscaping and Fencing under a new name. Why?? Well the last couple of years have been extremely challenging. We've had some freakish weather, the worst rainfall for 150 years, storms and heat waves. A global pandemic and lockdowns shutting the industry down which has resulted in a huge material shortage which shows no sign of letting up and the cost of many materials doubling, and in some cases, quadrupling. As you can see from my work I have completed some fairly large projects in the past, all on my own from start to finish with no help. These are hard enough to do but with huge shortages in materials it is making it nearly impossible to complete jobs on time and get paid. It has meant that projects have dragged on longer than anticipated and I've been lucky to have some amazingly patient clients, but unfortunately it has also meant that there have been jobs that I just haven't been able to get to and have sadly let some people down and that reputation is the last thing I want. It's impossible to continue this current business model in those circumstances. To top it all off I spent about 7 weeks ill and unable to work. The easy option would be to shut down and get a job, but I'm not about the walk from something I've spent years of blood, sweat and hard graft building up so I have decided to streamline the services I offer in line with material availability and to rebrand the business to reflect what I offer. I will still consider larger jobs but this will be on a case by case basis. Please share my page far and wide

Following on from my posts earlier, here is the finished article of one of this years makeover projects. The garden was a blank canvas in a new build, typically just tons of soil dumped in by the contractors. It has been divided in to 3 tiers with a retaining wall between the bottom and middle tier and lovely Brazilian black slate patio laid at the bottom. A lawn in the middle with fresh turf which has been nice to work with after doing so many artificial lawns and a raised deck at the top with a storage area underneath.

The project wasnt without issues... around 12 ton of bedrock had to be broken and dug out to create the finished levels. That brought further problems with groundwater seeping through the rock and finding it's way into the garden. A bespoke drainage system was designed and installed safely taking all the water into an underground land water pipe previously laid by the contractors which solved the issue. Around 18 ton came out in total and the customers loved having it piled up on their driveway 😬👀

Apologies to everyone I haven't replied to yet, I had to slow down the admin side of things while I concentrated on the completion of projects.

As much as I like decking it was time for this one to go. Replaced with a new fence all the way around, a new set of steps, sandstone paving and an artificial lawn with a limestone cobbled border. For enquiries and free quotes please get in touch.

Well I dont really know where to start with this one! Started back in January I had to contend with snow, ice, storms, the worst rainfall for 150 years, a global pandemic, lockdown and a materials shortage. No expense was spared with this. The garden was very much a muddy blank canvas, sloping from right to left and raised even higher in the far corner. Its was levelled with raised plant beds along both sides and across the back. These were built using block (as opposed to sleepers which would eventually rot and collapse) rendered and finished off with granite coping stone. Aggregate was brought in the raise the garden to bring it level. From the bottom gate leads a porcelain path to a set of block work steps face with porcelain taking you up to a small composite deck area which leads to the main porcelain patio. A path from the patio takes you to a large raised composite deck area with a set of step leading to the back get. The garden is finished off with a lovely 40mm artificial lawn laid on a strong permeable sub base and secured to a concrete border, not a timber frame! I can't take credit for the planting as this was all done by the client.

I'm not one to criticise someone else's work. We all have off days and different skill sets but unfortunately to describe what happened with this job I need to have a bit of a dig. Here, a retaining stonework wall that had been in place for a number of years had collapsed. A contractor was hired to rebuild the wall. So, without any concrete footings, a single skin stone wall was 'built' with no mortar, literally just stones stacked on top of each other on mud, to hold back tons and tons of soil. It collapsed pretty quickly so I was brought in to build it properly. Huge footings were put in place with more concrete and steel than you could shake a stick at, a rear skin retainer built with concrete blocks and steel and then faced off with the natural stone. Its jobs like this that highlight the importance of checking who you are hiring and that they have the skills and knowledge to do the job.

The gardens in Plymouth come in all shapes and sizes from courtyards to large flat gardens to really steep gardens that I love carrying all the materials and waste up and down. Having a courtyard doesn't mean you can't have a garden. There are a number of methods and designs i can use to get the most out of the space and create an illusion of more space. Here is a courtyard i transformed from a pretty run down sorry state to a modern space with a small artificial lawn for the dog to run up and down and a seating area at the top. If you would like a quote for any landscaping please get in touch.

Here at Chris Quick Landscaping and Fencing we love a good fence. They're strong, cost effective, look good and we can be in and out in a timely manner. However, sometimes especially if you live on the end of a row of houses bordering a pavement or an alleyway you need something a bit stronger with a bit more security. And that's where we come in. We can build a solid boundary wall with handmade fence panels and gates to finish it off. These outlast a traditional fence by a lifetime and give you added security. Please have a look at the pictures attached of previous projects and if you would like a quote for this, or any landscaping or fencing project, please get in touch.
