Huge thanks to the kind hearted souls at Plumbob (Robert Price), Old Foundry Yard Rockhill road for the donation of a new boiler at the gym. After our old boiler suffered a KO, our resident builder at Pontypool Boxing Club - Andrew Jones popped down to see the guys at Plumbob Pontypool. Phil Musa, Phil Gauntlett and Claire Nihill could not do enough to help, and within a couple of hours they had donated a brand new boiler to the gym!

Also a big shout out to Lloyd Bartley and Rhys Bartley of Bartley's Heating and Plumbing Services who donated their time and expertise to fit the boiler and get us up and running!

To all those involved, its down to people like yourselves that help keep the club going and we really do appreciate it, big thanks 👏👍

🚨 Plumbing Industry to Phase Out Plastic by 2026 🚨

UK, 1st April 2025 – In a groundbreaking move, the Plumbing Merchant Association (PMA) has announced plans to eliminate plastic plumbing products from UK merchants by January 2026. The decision, aimed at reducing plastic waste and embracing “greener” alternatives, has sent shockwaves through the industry.

A Shift Towards “Sustainable Plumbing”

The PMA cites environmental concerns, microplastic pollution, and long-term durability as key reasons for the transition. According to PMA spokesperson Phil Fittings, the industry must evolve to meet modern sustainability goals:

“Plastic pipes have had their time, but the future of plumbing is 100% natural. That’s why we’re excited to introduce BambooFlow™ piping – a sustainable, self-growing alternative.”

Made from ethically sourced bamboo, BambooFlow™ pipes offer lightweight durability, natural leak resistance, and a rustic aesthetic. And in a major industry first – plumbers will be able to grow their own spare parts!

Other eco-friendly materials under trial include:

✅Compressed hay insulation for superior warmth retention

✅Clay pipe joints for a truly earthy plumbing system

✅Hand-carved oak stopcocks for that premium, medieval touch

Industry Reactions & Concerns

While environmental groups have praised the initiative, many plumbers and merchants have expressed scepticism. Some argue that bamboo installations will require entirely new tools, including whittling knives and organic vine fasteners.

Despite the concerns, the PMA has assured tradespeople that training will be provided, covering everything from bamboo bending techniques to the ancient art of vine-wrapping pipe joints.

What’s Next?

With the phase-out beginning in January 2026, merchants are advised to start stocking alternative materials and prepare for the future of plumbing – one that’s truly rooted in nature.
