A new client gets in touch. They have a clear brief. And the basis of which is a design from their previous architect…

The original design got planning approval 5 years ago. The previous architect got paid. The client liked the original design, but felt it no longer suited who they are now.

So the challenge here was to define, refine and improve. And to ultimately bring to life, and give them confidence that they’re getting a space that suits them.

Plans, elevations and 3D model presented.

New planning application submitted today.

I think the brief has been achieved so far. The fundamentals of the original are there, with lots of detail and input from myself and the client.

(They had started some of the work, but a new planning application was required due in-part to a spurious condition on an element that was classed as permitted development, but that’s another story that’s complex and boring).

More client photos from Newmachar. 😍

Original plan was to be finished in time for the World Cup!

Windows in, knocked through from the house and the cladding is on! World Cup never in doubt.

Looking good .

Friday 13th March - unlucky for some.

But & I were delighted to pick up an award at the Annual Dinner & Design Awards for our work to bring back to life.

Along with we were privileged to get the opportunity to create something bigger and better than the original. The client loved the original, so that set a high bar to begin with.

The client had an input at every stage, so the process was very much collaborative, and the result is a space that we are all extremely proud of.

We won an award last week.

The judges commended and I, for our collaboration with the clients to create .

We were all delighted to be collecting an award as you can tell from the cheesers.

We were also delighted that could be there too. He created some of the bespoke furnishings. couldn’t make it. Next time…

Delighted to see this extension project near Newmachar coming together nicely.

Oriented directly south.
Framing views back to the city.
Mimicking the kitchen window.
Contrasting and complimenting.
And framing the sunset.

Photos from the client. Can’t wait to see it in real life.

“What are you working on?”

I’ve been telling people I’m working on a church for over a year now, without revealing too much.

But planning have now confirmed that the building can be used as an assembly building, and we have Listed Building Consent for internal alterations to create offices on the lower floor.

The assembly space will be on the upper floor, making use of the dramatic girder trusses and saw-tooth roof lights.

There are houses next door so we’ve created additional acoustic separation with storage along the adjoining wall.

There’s still lots of work to do to gain other permissions and get the project constructed. But I’m delighted to be given the opportunity and privilege of working to bring a project like this to life. (Even if it’s just CGI-life for now)

Another project presented to a client ahead of Christmas.

Another simple extension, with neat twists and well utilised space. Hidden utility via pantry doors, country central style kitchen table, shaker kitchen, exposed joists, views of the garden.

Replacing a kitchen in an old wash house/coal cellar lean-to.

Simple. Clean. On brief. Budget conscious.

An extension presented to a client this week.

The intention was to create a functional and economic space that replaced a small kitchen extension.

We created much-needed built-in storage and made use of a former patio door opening to recess tall kitchen units, without creating awkward corners or wasted space.

The extension also wraps around the side elevation of the house, creating a utility, boot room, vestibule with a new shower room.

New and improved functional spaces along with new and improved living space will make a great difference to this home.

We went to last week for brunch.
And guess who we bumped into?

from .
What are the chances?

We had both planned to get some photos taken of the building. But the team beat us to it, and shared some photos with us this week, ahead of our submission to the 2026 Design Awards.

Here’s a small selection from

Here’s the slowed-down, less anxiety-inducing version of the 3D fly through.

Get along and enjoy the finished, reimagined

The photos they’ve been posting have been unreal. I popped in for opening night and the vibe was awesome. (As lame as that might sound, it truly was)

Well done again 👏🏻
