When summer starts to fade into autumn 🍃🍂

Everywhere you look, there are little signs that the season is changing. The hydrangeas turn into beautifully muted shades, whilst dahlias, sedums and sunflowers are still bringing bursts of colour🌻🌸

Welcome September 🌸 The start of Autumn in the meteorological calendar 🍂 For me, it's the month to enjoy the last colours of summer with vibrant dahlias still growing strong and a wonderful vintage tint to the hydrangeas... with the first signs of real Autumn colours coming a bit later in the month 🍁

On my recent trip to Toronto, I loved visiting the vibrant street art in and around Graffiti Alley. Then I spotted the new Graffiti Reef at Ripley’s Aquarium , where vibrant reef fish and their amazing patterns are displayed alongside graffiti-inspired artwork 🐠🐡

It got me thinking… could I find my own version of graffiti in nature?

As soon as I walked into the Mediterranean Garden at the Royal Botanical Gardens of Canada, I knew I'd found some perfect examples! The colourful, varied planting, with bold colours and contrasting patterns, was incredible 🌺🌵🏵🍀

It’s amazing how nature can reflect so many of the qualities we look for in art - colour, pattern, texture and composition 🌿🖼

Art and nature together, two of my favourite things to photograph 📸🌸🖼

During my recent trip to Canada, I discovered the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington and Hamilton, just outside Toronto, and was fascinated by the way contemporary art had been brought into the gardens.

ANCHORBALL: A Curious Art Journey brought 18 large-scale Pop Art sculptures by artist Ken Kelleher into Hendrie Park, creating some brilliant contrasts between bold, colourful artwork and the flowers and greenery around it 🪷🏵🌿

I spent hours wandering through Hendrie Park, the Mediterranean Garden and then on to the separate Rock Garden, photographing everything from the sculptures to the tiny details in the flowers 📸

Highly recommend visiting if you're on holiday in Toronto.
