An early image of a recent project to adapt and reuse part of a former farm steading to accommodate multiple generations living together. Supporting our traditional drawings, we find that presenting our design work using visualisations like this brings a project to life for our clients.

Our extension project in Cambuslang is swiftly coming together with the shell almost weathertight. The external walls are to be finished in warm Blaxter sandstone blockwork from Northumberland, which is currently being tooled by the stonemasons prior to laying. Excited to see this one complete!

The challenging zinc roof at our project management site on Loch Lomond is almost complete after brilliant work by BASE METAL ROOFING LTD. There are lots of excellent detailed touches to compliment the VMZINC Pigmento Red material. These include powder coated rafter brackets, colour matched capping clips and vent covers as well as a custom made gutter bead. Despite the complicated geometry it drains beautifully!

This project for a rear extension to a mid-terraced property in Giffnock is a feast of interesting materials!

Externally, Douglas fir joinery is combined with lime harling and handmade wood ash glazed ceramic panels. IndiNature h**p fibre batts will be used to insulate the walls and floor, and STEICO UK wood fibre boards are to be used for the flat roof. CELENIT Isolanti Naturali wood wool boards with lime plaster are to be used as an alternative to plasterboard for internal linings.

We have just secured planning approval from Merton Council for the addition of this new zinc clad dormer as part of alterations to an Edwardian property in Wimbledon. Replacing an existing dormer, the volume of the new addition in combination with reconfiguring the internal layout will be transformational. Full height glazing will be maximised through use of frameless glass balustrades, and a red brown hue in the standing seam cladding will compliment the original brickwork and roof tiling.

There's currently no missing our new build house project near Luss due to a covering of A.Proctor Group Ltd. Roofshield. It will shortly be clad and roofed in VMZINC Pigmento Red which will settle it into the woodland landscape alongside Loch Lomond. The material palette is completed with restoration of the existing sandstone and whinstone walls, and pinky-white lime harling.

The specification is the detailed written description of the materials, components and systems to be used for your project. It also includes details of the expected quality, standards to be followed, required performance, workmanship and the method for how the work should be completed. It is used by your contractor during construction but also before construction as a key part of costing the works.

While your architect will prepare the specification and take responsibility for it being accurate, it can be helpful as a client to understand the factors being considered, in order that you can communicate your aspirations, expectations and priorities.
