Brrrrr, brass monkey!! First frost of late autumn today so REALLY important to stay off your lawn until it has properly thawed. Frozen grass leaves can be snapped and crowns can be damaged and sometimes the grasses can die off if you walk on them leaving brown footprints which may need reseeding in spring. Stay in, grab a cuppa and enjoy the frosty white from a warm distance!

Beautiful late Autumn day and a stunning late Autumn lawn. Two months ago, these lawns were riddled with deep moss, bare patches and w**ds - hard to believe. Now, after a renovation in September, no moss, no w**ds just lovely fresh, new, green grass. Well done to my lovely customers for watering, keeping the leaves off and mowing properly. Absolutely love results like this!

Although I am not one for the spotlight, I am actually quite proud of this piece and our story! There’s some embarrassment there too though! Thanks to all at AT for encouraging me to share this bit of the journey, great job guys!

Not a bad result just 3 weeks after a full lawn renovation! Still more growing to come and the lawn will thicken up nicely. Shame about the dog wee patches but it’s a lovely dog at least! Well done to my lovely customer as well for watering for the past few weeks, good effort! Not long left in the renovation window this year but there’s still time if you want a lawn like this? Get in touch.

A cold, wet Sunday but rugby once again made the gang smile. The boys trained their socks off in touch conditions and impressed Sale Shark Nick Schonert and Will Davies from the Sale FC first team. If your lad is in year 7 and would like to try rugby union get in touch!

Need players! A personal post today as co-coach of the fantastic Sale FC u12 rugby union team. A lovely bunch of kids and a superb club to be part of from a rugby and community perspective. We train on Thursday evenings and play competitive matches on Sunday mornings. Our new season starts imminently and we are looking for year 7 lads who would like to play rugby union and feel part of a truly supportive team. No prior experience required! DM me for further details. Thanks!! Tim

Sad day in our house. Our amazing wildflower lawn has been scythed down. As a grass lawn specialist, we were hugely surprised by the amount of joy the wildflower lawn gave us. So much colour and diversity and loads of wildlife. A lot less maintenance too! We love our grass lawn but the wildflowers were a revelation. Now cut, the perennials should start coming through and we look forward to another show of colour next year. A fine journey.

We’ve had a number of questions from customers recently who have toadstools in their lawns. This is not something to worry about at all and it is actually a sign of healthy soil. The toadstools will not harm the lawn and can be carefully picked off by hand - use a plastic bag to avoid spreading any spores. Toadstools often appear in moist, humid conditions and given the wet summer weather are having, this could explain their current prevalence. Feel free to contact The Lawn Business if you have any lawn-related queries or concerns.

Cold feet? Hopefully the worst of the weather is behind us but frosts do still happen through the spring. In a hard frost, try not to step on the lawn or you will leave “frost steps” like these! The grass can die off leaving perfect footprints in the lawn. Hopefully these will grow out but beware!

Just returned from an excellent 2 days spent at the annual conference of the UK Lawn Care Association. Loads of superb training and development ideas from a range of fantastic guest speakers and members of the UKLCA committee. I even did a turn or two myself! Standout sessions for me included talks on controlling lawn pests responsibly (thanks Syngenta!), and a separate session on how we can encourage women into the lawn care sector (thanks Top Grass and the Women In Lawn Care group).

As always with the UKLCA conferences (this was my fourth!), I came away with so many great ideas to improve my customer offering, some of which I have already included into my own business. Even more inspired and excited for the new season to get started - just think, somewhere in Manchester there is a family lawn which is about to get a lovely makeover! Can’t wait to meet it!

Well done UKLCA on another superb event!

New year new lawn? We are super-excited for the new 2024 season and to helping you get a lush green lawn to enjoy and be proud of. Each of the pictured lawns was in a pretty poor state this time last year but we managed to turn them into beautiful green spaces which our customers enjoyed through the summer. It can be done and we love doing it!

Our brand-spanking new diary is open and filling up for spring already! Get in touch and tick “sort the lawn out” on your NY resolutions list - we’d love to help and make your lawn our business.

Best wishes for 2024!

Tim
