Blinds for London Country buses.
Last year we had a request for a bespoke blind to be made for an Olympian bus undergoing restoration which required a set of 3T NBC style numbers and also a destination blind. The owner asked if we could recreate an early mix of tyvek blinds that were originally made by both King & Flack and Mckenna Brothers.
Interestingly, K&F had their very own interpretation of LT's Johnston font, whilst McKennas were still using hand cut stencils which would appear to be of any design that the cutter thought was appropriate! This "font" is often referred to as Dustbin or 'Biscuit Tin' letters!
Previously we have scanned original blinds and produced our own font files for both styles, so creating the desired effect on this blind was actually no trouble at all. You would be forgiven for not noticing the difference between K&F's Johnston and the real Johnston - but they are. Furthermore we captured the rather odd blue colour used by Mckennas in the early 1980's for the express sections.
The customer wished for various displays from the old Leatherhead Bus Garage in Surrey and we found the relevant displays from our archives of London Transport and London Country blind schedules and records - very useful when we get orders like this as well.

Blinds for Experiences!
We were approached during 2023 to supply and fit blinds to the buses that are used by the new and exciting operation called London Bus Experiences
Using red London double deck buses they provide a uique driving opportunity for those people who have always wanted to drive a real bus - a school boy dream of many a youngster we are sure!
For that final touch they came to us for the blinds, which would also see use during the hours of darkness, so we ensured there was no bleed-through when the blinds were illuminated from behind. Indeed the operator has plans for new ventures this year including night time tours of London amongst other things.
As usual we are also able to supply individual inserts at short notice (five working days normally) for clients that want their very own display on the vehicle during the experience!

Blinds For Buses does AEC Regals!
Here are a few orders, all from 2023, that we received for the popular RF type vehihcle, both red and green versions.
Below we have shown some completed blinds before fitment and also a few doing their job in the front of the actual buses.
On the photos of the blinds you'll notice one is an order just completed for this weekend's Bromley Running Day, hosted by Country Bus Rallies - Kent & Sussex. Another is a generic blind made for a RF owner that includes a real blend of different styles, including two different Green Line efforts (with the correct period yellow or amber), and some panels of his own choice!
For your AEC Regal or any bus give us a shout.

Recently BFB had this order from the owner of a London Transport Guy Special (or GS class) single deck bus.
The owner asked us if we were able to replicate the LT fonts going back to the late 1950's and mix some of these displays into the overall blind alongside the more common and modern LT Johnston fonts.
Fortunately we have access to various fonts going back to periods of this vintage including those for London. The results can be seen below as well as a few pictures of the immaculately restored bus making its debut at Brooklands during their summer event.

One of our favourite orders over the past few months has been for a customer who is preserving some nice City of Portsmouth vehicles including a vintage Leyland TD4, which is undergoing extensive restoration.
He was so impressed with the blinds and inserts we have provided for his running fleet that he couldn't resist getting a special blind made for the TD4, of his own design, that it could display whilst inside the workshop.
We were as pleased with the results as he was - always a good thing! After all, vintage buses need vintage looking blinds.

Today we will bring you right up to date with an event that happened just a few days ago - the annual Ensignbus Running Day.
Once again our blinds featured heavily in the selection of well presented (and beautifully restored) classic buses.
For this year specifically we supplied further sets of blinds for RM's, RT's and inserts for the MCW Metrobus M1 and the Lynx that was used on the day. Some of these were supplied 24 hours before the event as the organizers were given more buses by the engineering team, who were working flat out to give maximum vehicle availability for the day!
A big well done to all concerned from us at BFB.

This year is the 40th Anniversary of the popular operator Metrobus of Orpington, now part of the Go Ahead Group. Plenty of their former buses have made it into preservation and the owner's have repeatedly come to BFB for their running day blinds and other special events, notably the 30th and 40th celebrations.
Notice that on vehicle JTM109V we have replicated the original blinds that were hand made by the company owner back in 1983 and we have matched them perfectly and created our own computerized font, handy for any future orders with any route or destination.
It was the wish of the former owner & director of the company that the buses had uniform displays for the anniversary line ups. So we know that we have had orders for at least the last ten years!
Some pictures below.

Blinds For Buses does Routemasters!
Well of course we do - who doesn't do Routemasters!
The pictures below show an order we have had from a recently restored example of these popular vehicles. This one is not from the London area either, such is the fact that their popularity is huge - rather like our blinds!
The owner asked for a set of blinds from the original Walworth Bus Garage and his routes and year was specific but this is no problem to us, as we can recreate most LT bus blinds dating right back to the 1950's. We use our extensive database of records from the former LT blind shops that we have collected over the years.
To add our special touch to your Routemaster or any London bus, give us a shout.

Blinds For Buses does Blinds For Trains!
Not for the first time but we have, during the course of the year, been busy making train blinds as well - both normal destination displays and also sets of the well known BR diesel headcode blinds.
This particular order was for the Dean Forest Railway DMU Group and they required a set of blinds to go onto their newly refurbished blind boxes for one of their trains.
The results are seen below!
