Petes Peat-free is a partnership built by two friends Chris and Pete. We have over 50 years experience in our relative fields of vermiculture and horticulture.

We produce and sell a peat free compost which is unlike anything else on the market. It is 100% peat free with no green waste. All the material used is from mainland UK and all is from sustainable sources. You can sow seeds, prick out seedlings, use it for vegetables, for potting, baskets, containers etc. It is water retentive and best of all it is full of natural organic fertiliser left behind by the worms working through the compost.

Our mission was to produce a superb peat free compost for the general public. We ran trials for 2 years before we settled on a very specific formulation that the worms would like but more importantly would be excellent for plants.

UK GOVERNMENT BANS PEAT
The UK government has banned peat sales to the amateur gardener from 2024.
Whatever you're view on this, it's happening and quickly.
We believe there will be a lot of poor quality peat free products produced giving at best variable results.

Here at PetesPeatfree we are producing not only an alternative but we feel a better product than peat.
We specifically don't use green waste or coir in our mix. Using thousands of worms to fertilise and break down our mix is very different to any other peat free producer. Why not take a look for yourself and give us a try.

Our warehouse full of PetesPeatfree compost.
Each tray has 10lts of compost in and over 1,000 worms in each tray wow!!!!
Trays are left in the warehouse for 8-12 weeks with the worms being fed a supplementary cereal bran twice a week. The compost has to be watered too when it's starting to dry. Trays are stacked and unstacked by hand PHEW hard work.

This is the magic ingredient we put in our compost. WORMS!!! They turn it into a fine nutrient rich peat free compost. Don't worry though the worms are taken out and put into the next batch before it's bagged for sale.

Apologies for taking so long to get up and running on Facebook. We are a cottage industry limited by what the worms can produce. We did not want to be inundated and let customers down. We had a fantastic response to our peat free compost at the Harrogate flower show and sold out at one point. We have now upped production and going into the quieter summer time have limited stock available.
