🌱 March is Here: Is Your Garden Ready for Spring?
The days are getting longer, and the ground is finally starting to warm up! March is one of the most important months in the gardening calendar to set yourself up for a beautiful summer.
Here are 3 essential tasks to tackle this month:
1. The "First Cut" of the Year ✂️
If the ground is dry enough and not frozen, it’s time for the first mow!
• Pro Tip: Set your mower blades to the highest setting for the first few cuts. You just want to "tidy" the top rather than scalp it. This keeps the grass healthy as it wakes up from winter.
2. Beat the Weeds Early 🧤
Weeds start growing the moment the temperature rises. Getting them now—roots and all—before they go to seed will save you hours of work in May and June. A fresh layer of mulch after weeding will also help suppress them and feed your plants!
3. Pruning & Tidying 🌿
It’s the last chance to prune your roses and late-flowering shrubs (like Buddleja) before the new growth really takes off. Clear away any dead leaves or winter debris from your borders to give your spring bulbs room to shine.
