Can good lighting tempt you to make even more use of your garden? I think it does - although I'll grant you it won't when its pouring down like it has for the last week...

I designed this new garden courtyard earlier in the year and it was built in the Spring. The client has just kindly shared these photos and told me how the lighting made the garden a safer and more relaxing place during evenings this summer.

I specified new wall lighting, mushroom lighting through the planting near the house and a domed eyelid light to illuminate a step down from the house level.

A modern garden can offer so many features but few are likely to have more impact than colourful planting. In the gardens I design I use plants that add warmth and vibrancy to tempt you outside or simply improve the view from the kitchen sink.

My horticultural experience means I select the right plant for the right place. I choose plants that will thrive and sustain the interest from spring bulbs, through the vibrant colours of summer and autumn perennials and right through to the winter flowering shrubs.

Most of us want to get our children to spend less time on screens and more time outdoors.

But does having something for the children to do in the garden mean giant plastic swing and slide sets or blocking views with a whopping trampoline?

With thoughtful garden design your children can have hours of fun without the mountain of plastic.
