From cluttered catch-all to organised and functional 🧰✨

Sheds and workshops are often the forgotten spaces when it comes to decluttering and organising… but they can quickly become overwhelming! 🧰🪛🪚

I recently helped a client transform their shed/workshop from a space full of “I might need this one day” items into an organised, functional area where everything has a home again.

These spaces tend to collect:

🔹 Old tools and DIY leftovers
🔹 Empty pots, paint tins and cables
🔹 Gardening equipment
🔹 Boxes of “miscellaneous” items
🔹 Things moved out of the house “just for now”

With summer here, now is the perfect time to tackle sheds, garages and workshops so they’re easier to use and maintain.

A few simple changes can make a huge difference:

✔️ Grouping similar items together
✔️ Creating zones for tools, gardening and storage
✔️ Using shelves, hooks and clear containers
✔️ Letting go of broken, duplicate or unused items

An organised shed doesn’t just look better — it saves time, reduces frustration and makes those outdoor jobs much easier ☀️

A little throwback to a project from this time last year ✨

This room had gradually become a storage space for all the things that didn’t quite have a home… but with some decluttering, organising and a fresh perspective, we transformed it into a calm, functional home office 💻

Creating an organised workspace can make such a difference — whether you work from home full time, run a business, or just need somewhere to manage life admin without feeling overwhelmed.

Sometimes the space you need is already there… it just needs uncovering beneath the clutter 💛

If you’ve got a room that’s no longer working for you, I’d love to help you reimagine it.

Mental Health Awareness Week feels like the perfect time to talk about something I see so often in my work…

Clutter and mental load are deeply connected. 💛

A cluttered home doesn’t mean someone is lazy or messy. More often, it reflects how overwhelmed, exhausted or stretched they’ve been.

When life gets busy, stressful or emotionally heavy, things start to pile up:

📦 paperwork
🧺 laundry
🛍 bags of “I’ll sort that later”
🧸 things without a home

And the harder it feels, the more guilt and overwhelm can build.

I work with so many women who tell me:
“I don’t even know where to start.”

That’s where support can make such a difference.

Decluttering isn’t about having a perfect home. It’s about creating calmer spaces that help you breathe a little easier, think more clearly and feel more in control of your day-to-day life.

Even small changes can have a huge impact on mental wellbeing. ✨

If your home has been feeling overwhelming lately, you are absolutely not alone.

Giving yourself permission to ask for help is a strength, not a failure. 💛

Books, CDs and DVDs can quietly take over our homes without us even noticing 📚💿📀

Many of us are now streaming music, films and TV programmes, reading on Kindles or e-readers, and listening to audiobooks or podcasts instead. Yet we’re still holding onto shelves full of things we no longer use.

Decluttering these items can instantly create more space, reduce dust and make a room feel calmer and lighter ✨

That doesn’t mean getting rid of everything you love. Favourite books, special editions and sentimental collections absolutely deserve a place in your home if they still bring you joy. But if you’ve got piles of DVDs you haven’t watched in 10 years, CDs you no longer have a player for, or books you know you’ll never read again, it might be time to let them go.

Donating items to charity shops, schools, community groups or resale apps can give them a second life with someone who will genuinely enjoy them ❤️

Less clutter = less overwhelm, easier cleaning and more room for the things that truly matter.

If you’re struggling to know where to start with decluttering your home, I’d love to help 😊

Limited June availability ✨

If your home is starting to feel overwhelming, cluttered or difficult to manage, this could be the perfect time to make a change.

Decluttering and organising isn’t about having a “perfect” home — it’s about creating spaces that feel calmer, easier to live in and work better for you and your family.

When your home feels more organised, everyday life can feel lighter too:
✨ Less stress and overwhelm
✨ More space and clarity
✨ Easier cleaning and tidying
✨ Saving time looking for things
✨ Feeling more relaxed in your home
✨ More confidence inviting people over
✨ Letting go of items that no longer serve you

Whether you need help tackling one room, paperwork, wardrobes, kitchens or just don’t know where to start, I can support you step by step, without judgement.

I currently have some availability in June for both consultations and decluttering sessions.

If you’d like to find out more or book in, send me a message 💛

Have you watched the new TV series “How to Clean up for Cash”?

I watched the first episode with some trepidation after seeing part of an interview on This Morning. I didn’t see the whole interview so didn’t know much about the format of the show so thought I’d give it the benefit of the doubt.

Unfortunately, my initial thoughts were correct, the show focuses on how much money can be made from “clutter” and in the shock factor of people’s collections, with of course the culmination of will they or won’t they sell their collections at the end of the show.

No compassion is given to the owner, just a pressure to sell. APDO Association of Professional Declutterers & Organisers have released a statement so please take a few minutes to read.

If you’ve watched it I’d love to know your thoughts.

APDO has released the following statement - what are your views?

The Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers (APDO) welcomes the growing public conversation around the impact of clutter and the benefits of living in more organised spaces. However, in response to the recent television programme How to Clean Up for Cash, we feel it is important to clarify that the approach portrayed in the show does not reflect the core values and professional standards upheld by our members.

At APDO, we promote a client-centred, compassionate, and ethical approach to decluttering and organising. Our work is grounded in supporting individuals to make sustainable, meaningful changes to their homes and lives – changes that prioritise wellbeing, functionality, and personal circumstances over quick financial gain or entertainment value.

Programmes that frame decluttering primarily as a means of generating profit risk oversimplifying what is often a complex and deeply personal process. For many people, possessions are closely tied to memory, identity, and emotional wellbeing. Effective decluttering requires sensitivity – and importantly – collaboration and consent, not pressure, urgency, or a focus on monetary outcomes.

Our members are professionals who adhere to a code of ethics, and who operate in the spirit of values that centre on respect, confidentiality, and the long-term interests of the client. While television formats may prioritise dramatic transformations and financial narratives, real-life organising is rarely about speed or spectacle – it is about empowering people to regain control of their environments in a way that is manageable, lasting and consensual.

We encourage anyone seeking support with decluttering or organising to engage with professionals who follow recognised standards of practice. APDO remains committed to raising awareness of responsible, supportive approaches that genuinely improve people’s quality of life, beyond what can be captured in a television format. APDO welcomes engagement with broadcasters and media producers at the planning stage to help ensure accurate, ethical representation of decluttering and organising in future broadcasts.

Today was all about creating space ✨

I spent the day helping a client clear out books, DVDs and CDs, with carloads donated to charity and so much more room created in their home.

Sometimes the things we no longer need can feel overwhelming when they build up, but with the right support, letting go becomes so much easier.

If you’ve got shelves, cupboards or spare rooms full of items you’re ready to clear, I’d love to help you make progress.

A decluttering session can help you feel lighter, calmer, and back in control of your space.

Message me if you’re ready to take that first step 🤍

There’s something about bedding that makes it so easy to keep…

“Just in case” sets, spare pillows, mismatched sheets, duvets for every possible season.

But all that just in case can quickly turn into far too much.

And that’s where the overwhelm creeps in.

Overfilled linen cupboards.
Sets you can’t quite match up.
Pillows and duvets you’re not even sure you like anymore.

It becomes harder to find what you need… and easier to shut the door and avoid it altogether.

Editing your bedding isn’t just about creating space—it’s about creating ease.

Imagine opening your cupboard and seeing:

• Complete, matching sets
• Bedding you actually enjoy using
• Space to breathe

No rummaging. No frustration. No second-guessing.

A simple place to start:

✨ Keep 2–3 sets per bed (one on, one spare, one optional)
✨ Choose bedding you genuinely love and feel comfortable in
✨ Let go of anything worn, unused, or “just in case”

Because when your home feels lighter, so do you.

Less excess. Less decision fatigue. Less overwhelm.

More calm. More clarity. More ease.

If your linen cupboard is starting to feel like a source of stress rather than support, it might be time for a gentle edit 🤍

Happy Tuesday, I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend.

Back to it now with an ongoing client in Bedford. It’s going to be a busy session—items are coming back from short-term storage (while work was carried out on the house), and some larger pieces of furniture are being collected for charity.

Every home I work in is completely different, and today is a great example of how many moving parts there can be behind the scenes.

I recently worked with a client who kindly sent me this wonderful testimonial, which I’m so grateful for.

“I had a wonderful experience working with Caroline. I was initially apprehensive, as it’s such a personal thing inviting someone into your space, but I needn’t have worried.

Caroline is the utmost professional, kind, understanding and incredibly easy to be around. She really listens to your needs and concerns and takes everything into account, which made me feel completely safe and cared for throughout our first session. She is also very discreet and understands that you may prefer to keep the process private, which I really appreciated.

What I had anticipated would be a difficult experience actually passed in what felt like minutes. By the end of the session, I felt like a weight I had been carrying for a long time had finally been lifted, and she gave me a real sense of hope.

I have already booked my next session and would recommend her in a heartbeat.”

Nicky, St Neots

Discretion is a founding principle in the work I carry out for clients. I understand that inviting someone into your home—and your personal space—requires trust, and I always ensure that every session is handled with complete respect, sensitivity, and confidentiality, tailored to whatever level of privacy each client feels comfortable with.

If you’ve been thinking about getting some support but aren’t quite sure where to start, you’re very welcome to get in touch for a friendly, no-pressure chat.
