This one is a staple of all plant lovers and plant wanters. Getting it from small to big is hard but medium to big is all a matter of time!
As within the nature of most monsters and philodendrons, these suckers like their soil chunky : bark, coconut shavings, perlite and as much drainage as you can with a slightly acidic soil PH - so feel free to add some sphagnum moss in there . For those with a life , in short get some orchid bark and mix it with the general houseplant soil - its too stogie for a monstera on its own , so even that should be better than nothing and easy to get .
They like it warm, so winters are slow for them but they like the heating on ! Mist them but in reality, every once in a while get a cloth, wet it and wipe the leaves as the dust can stop is from photosynthesising ( in basic terms, it feels choked ). Dont worry, leaves get yellow, prune them when they do as shrivelled green leaves means its thirsty.
100% to growth poles, but I am NOT a fan of the coil onece . Frankly I discovered so light coconut onece that allow the roots to grow into it - its light, you put soil and moss on the inside and it feels and looks like a trunk (PMM me for details but you can find them in Dobbies , they are the environmentally supported onece).
Try and guide the aerial roots back into the ground - trust me it will love it and the support is great. They like being rootbound so when there is more root than soil in the pot - you can report it . Water wise it likes it well watered but not stodgy , that is what the drainage and the chunky soil is for! SOAK it , WIPE it and SQUEEZE the excess water out ( BOP it on a leave for a high five!) , and boom that is one happy little monster!
