Tending to an allotment involves a variety of tasks including clearing, planning, planting, watering, weeding, and composting. It's a commitment that requires regular visits, especially during the growing season, to maintain the plot and ensure healthy crops. While it can be hard work physically, it offers a connection with nature and you are rewarded with an abundance of vegetables 🧐

E A Smith
Leading Telegraphist RN
HMS Hood
30th November 1943 Age 40

I undertook some research on E A Smith, as I was aware that HMS Hood was sunk by the German battleship Bismarck in 1941. E A Smith was killed 30th November 1943 which raised questions. Before I commence further research for the facts, for now it is a realistic possibility that he had simply previously served on the Mighty Hood. (Update pending)

A shell from the Bismarck detonated in or near Hood's ammunition magazines, causing a massive explosion that broke the ship in two and sank it within minutes. Only three of the 1,418 crew members survived. E A Smith is not listed as a survivor.
This grave will now be tended to by Walter Wall Gardens. RIP.

The sweetcorn is a-maize-ing and we’re finding the carrots a-peeling.
Cabbages, beetroot and raspberries are un-beet-able. 😊🧅

Before and after
A customer wanted to turn an elderly parents rear garden into a pleasant space to relax.
Now a visually appealing and enjoyable outdoor space with flowers and foliage providing colour and scent throughout the year. A slabbed centre square means they can sit amongst the blooms and enjoy their surroundings.
Soft landscaping from Walter Wall Gardens.

Day one on our new allotment.
Cant wait to get started.
Plot cleared of debris and the first hour was spent with a shovel in hand weeding.
This was slow progress as the plot is huge so an upgrade to a rotivator was the best decision of the day. The whole plot was weeded, turned over and aerated within the second hour. This is quite good fun, but it’s harder work than I anticipated.
Looking around at my elderly neighbours, if they can do it then so can I.
Watch this space!
