I undertook a massive rejuvenation pruning of this Photinia. It had grown to an incredible size of 5-6 metres tall! The pictures may look extreme, but Photinia are an incredibly hardy shrub and generally respond positively to hard prunes. I've never seen one get so big.

I recently dipped my toe in a little bit of landscaping. This ancient Buxus hedge had become large and overbearing, crowding and shadowing the garden. Removed and replaced with some yew shrubs and hydrangea as chosen by my client. I think the space has really opened up!

This may well be the biggest rejuvenation I've done for a hedge to date! This privet hedge (Ligustrum ovalifolium) needed a significant reduction of 1m+ to all sides as it was encroaching on garden space and the neighbouring passageway. Needless to say you can see the difference in light!

It may look a bit bare right now, but privet is very resilient and will bounce back in no time.

I spend so much time trimming laurel hedges and leylandii that sometimes I forget planting a beneficial hedge is an option. Laurel and leylandii offer practically no benefits to our native ecosystems and wildlife. This hawthorn hedge however is a bountiful and welcome sight. Providing homes, food and shelter for hundreds of birds and insects. Did you know the leaves and flowers go great in a salad as well?

Today's garden bed clearance. Extensive w**ds removed, cardboard layered as a natural w**d suppressant, and a thick layer of compost added. Will look lovely all planted up. Can't wait to see what my client chooses.

These cherry laurels were over due a trim. An excellent hedging plant that provides privacy and year-round foliage (they do grow fast though!). All back to looking tidy and fresh.

Weeding often isn't glamorous or showy so I don't share much of it, but sometimes the time invested can really bring a garden together. Here are some recent examples of w**ding jobs I've done.

Today I undertook some hard pruning of a smoke tree and a lilac. Whilst this may look drastic, both of these plants (in the genus Cotinus and Syringa respectively) benefit greatly from hard prunes during dormant winter months. Believe it or not, this technique allows for rejuvenation and fuller growth, promoting a stronger more resilient, vibrant flowering tree/bush for years to come.
