While setting up to LOLER, we noticed a section where the outer strands had been cut and the inner core was exposed. Even though the damage looked “small,” once the core is compromised the rope’s strength and integrity are no longer reliable.

We immediately took the rope out of service, marked the damaged section, and retired it from climbing use. Gear is replaceable. People aren’t.
