Hello, hello!

I'm very excited to release the second edition of Basic Birch - Journals, here to provide you with something a little different for your newsfeed.

This Nature Propaganda aims to share information about the horticultural world, environmental news topics, scientific discoveries, gardening hints & tips, seasonal forecasts, advertising local events, sharing art work (and more!) while also being a form of advertising for Basic Birch (and others).

I'm forever learning about different gardening techniques, nature and wildlife. Basic Birch Journals is basically just a fun way to share some of the wonderful discoveries I've made with people who share similar interests, the same passions and devotions - calling out to the green conscious collective (and whoever else wants to have a read).

If you have a story that you would like to share or want to send me your artwork to be featured in next months edition, feel free get in touch 😁

Have the loveliest weekend and be sure to contact me for any of your gardening needs! 💚

I'd really love to go back to this garden and give those Hydrangea and Weigelia shrubs on the side of the greenhouse a prune - they could do with a little snippy snip, which will be good for the plants and it will allow more sunlight to reach inside the greenhouse

As for the plants just beneath them, they just needed some breathing space by removing some old & dead foliage, providing them with some much need air circulation, exposure to some sunlight and plenty more room to grow.

It's such a pleasure to work outdoors and especially after such a long winter, it is a treat to see all the new growth start to appear.

If you have any garden projects that you want a hand getting started, let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you out.

Another little moss removal making a big difference on this path.

Not only does it look neater and tidier, removing moss makes paths much less slippery and much more safer, especially after some wet weather.

If you need a helping hand around your garden, feel free to get in touch.

I'm happy to work on a range of different projects, with services offered from garden maintenance to garden design, give me a call or message me on

Finally, it's that glorious time of year where the garden is coming out of hibernation and new growth is kicking off the start of the growing season - spring is as good as here!

What better way to welcome in this years' abundance than to do the whole 'out with the old and in with the new!' - it's time for a little tidy up, clearing out the old and making room for some new plants.

Now is also the perfect time to prune back those overcrowded shrubs, to ensure plenty of air circulation between the new leaf growth (and avoid the plant getting diseases and fungal infections like powdery mildew).

It's exciting to see shops filling up with some lovely plant stock as well as local nurseries opening back up!

Let me know if you need any new beds or borders created for when you inevitably impulse buy* all the lovely, pretty, colourful plants and have nowhere to put them all - we've all been there.
(*some see it as 'impulse buying', I see it as 'the plant chooses you' - take them home).

I'm proud to work chemical-free, which is not only good news for the plants and wildlife in your garden, it's also amazing news to ensure your soil is healthy and it's great news for the wider environment, as there is no contamination or pollutants from harmful & toxic chemicals.

I'm also very proud to be:
- HND Qualified
- Fully Insured
- Nature & Wildlife Advocate
- Registered Plant Health Professional Operator
- Flexible & Affordable

This is a garden that I visit monthly and started last winter, so I am super excited to see how all these hydrangeas will look during the year!

It is so lush to see new growth on these plants already, it is such a welcomed sight this late into winter.

A little tidy up, dead heading of plants and cutting back of overgrowth is all some gardens really need.

Believe it or not, moss is one of my most favourite plants 💚

I absolutely love moss, the colour, the texture, the shape, the variety, how it grows - everything about it I just love!

I also know how slippery it can be and how dangerous a simple walk around the garden can become for some if moss has been left unmanaged for too long.

Let me know if you need a hand with moss removal and I will be happy to help - I'm proud to work chemical free!

I'm all for free plants, although with neighbouring ivy - sometimes it just has to go!

Ivy sends out roots along it's stem and wherever it grows, it slowly decomposes whatever that supports it, whether it's eroding rock over a long time or basically feasting upon the wood on a fence, ivy slowly does its damage.

All types of ivy are toxic to dogs, cats and other animals.
All parts of the plant (especially the leaves), if ingested, can be harmful.
However, ivy plants create crucial habitats for a range of wildlife and ivy berries provide a vital food source for birds.

It's best to manage ivy based on personal preferences and always take care handling or removing ivy as properties of the plant can cause skin irritation.

Get in touch if you have unwanted plants in your garden that need removing 😃
