The Wooden House in Trebetherick, Cornwall, is a wonderful example of how natural materials and high-performance design can work together.

Passivhaus modelling was used to help inform the design and performance specification, with EcoCocon prefabricated straw timber panels forming the external walls alongside wood fibre insulation and internal clay plasters.

The natural-material approach continues outside too. The timber cladding was sourced and milled from the clients’ own woodland in nearby St Breward and is designed to naturally silver over time, allowing the home to settle into its coastal surroundings.

Thoughtful details throughout the façade also create opportunities for birds and insects to nest, while integrated solar panels contribute to the home’s low-energy approach.

The EcoCocon system was complemented by Pro Clima Solitex Mento membrane and Tescon Vana airtightness tape.

A striking contemporary home with natural materials at its heart. 🌿

IndiBreathe Flex makes insulating timber frame walls, roofs and floors straightforward on site.

The flexible insulation batts can be cut to size and friction fitted between timber studs, joists and rafters, helping to achieve a close fit around the structure and minimise gaps in the insulation layer.

Made from UK-grown industrial h**p and jute fibres, IndiBreathe Flex combines thermal and acoustic insulation with excellent moisture management, making it particularly well suited to vapour-open construction.

And for cutting it? The Bahco Insulation Saw shown here is specifically designed for cutting soft insulation materials, helping to achieve clean, accurate cuts without compressing the insulation.

Both IndiBreathe Flex and the Bahco Insulation Saw are available from Ecological Building Systems.

This World Green Building Week, the focus is on how we build for the future – creating buildings that are resilient, efficient and ready for the opportunities ahead.

For us, that starts with building performance. Buildings need to use less energy, but they also need to manage moisture effectively, provide a healthy and comfortable indoor environment, and remain durable as our climate and the demands we place on them change.

That means looking beyond individual products or measures and considering the building as a whole – its fabric, materials, systems and how they work together.

It's also about giving people better information to make better decisions. That's one of the reasons we've developed our new System Calculator, helping users compare complete building systems, explore U-values and calculate the materials required for their project. Explore the system calculator ➡️ https://loom.ly/KdAl9ZM

Through better building physics, appropriate materials, technical knowledge and practical tools, we can create buildings that perform well into the future.

A busy and very rewarding few days in London!

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our colleagues Francesco and Cecilia from DIASEN for three days of training, site visits, and conversations with architects, contractors and installers across the city.

From delivering CPD training and answering technical questions, to seeing Diathonite being installed on large-scale projects, it was a great opportunity to bring together the people involved at different stages of the process.

The sessions were an opportunity not only to learn more about the materials and their applications, but also to ask questions and see firsthand how these solutions are used on live projects.

Most importantly, it was incredibly encouraging to see the progress across the projects we visited and to hear such positive feedback on the support our team provided. Thank you to all our friends and partners who helped with the organisation of the trip.

A very productive time and a great reminder of how much can be achieved through collaboration among manufacturers, architects, contractors, installers, and our technical team.

Thank you, Francesco and Cecilia, for joining us. We hope you enjoyed London as much as we enjoyed having you with us!

On Friday, we welcomed attendees to our Athboy Training Centre for a practical morning focused on airtightness.

It was great to see such strong engagement throughout the day, with plenty of questions, shared experiences and discussion alongside the hands-on workshops.

From airtightness, vapour control and weathertightness fundamentals to membrane application, taping, liquid membrane technology and a blower door test, the day was all about building a better understanding of airtightness and how it works in practice.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our technical team for sharing their knowledge and making it such an engaging and collaborative session.

A great day in Scotland with the IndiNature team!

Yesterday, members of our Irish team had the pleasure of visiting IndiNature, where we received a very warm welcome, and some excellent Scottish hospitality.
It was a valuable opportunity to spend time together, share insights from the natural insulation market in Ireland and the UK, and exchange ideas on how we can build on the growing interest in natural insulation and IndiBreathe Flex.
A highlight of the visit was seeing the IndiNature factory in action. From getting hands-on with the h**p and recycled jute fibres to seeing how production offcuts are collected and fed straight back into the manufacturing process, it was fascinating to see the level of care and efficiency behind the product.

A big thank you to Brian, Will and Amy, and the wider IndiNature team, for taking such good care of us throughout the day – and a special thank you to Brian for sending each of us home with some handmade Scottish tablet. A very thoughtful finishing touch to a great visit!

We came away with plenty of ideas and are looking forward to continuing to grow our partnership and the natural insulation market in Ireland and the UK.

Airtight window installation doesn’t need to be complicated.

When installing windows into masonry, good airtightness comes down to one key principle: continuity.

With the right surface preparation, sealing tapes and structural base, you can create a robust window connection using just a few carefully selected components.

👉 Swipe through to see how Pro Clima tapes and Warmotech Phonotherm each play a different role in this masonry window sill detail.

Not all airtightness tapes are designed in the same way. When choosing a tape, it’s worth considering what you’re relying on it to do, not just during installation, but for years afterwards.

What will it stick to?
Different substrates present different challenges. A reliable airtightness tape needs to form a strong bond with the materials it will actually encounter on site.

How does the bond develop?
Good initial adhesion makes installation easier, but you should also ask about the strength and development of the adhesive bond over time.

Will it stay stuck?
An airtight connection needs to remain secure long after the work has been covered up and is no longer accessible.

And has that performance been tested?
Independent testing and evidence of long-term durability are worth looking into when comparing products that can look very similar on the roll.

That's why we're proud to partner with Pro Clima, their airtightness tapes are designed to last for decades to come.

We have some exciting news! 🌾🏆

EcoCocon - Straw Wall System has been shortlisted for the Product/System Innovation Award at the 2026 Structural Timber Awards.

And there is a lot behind that recognition.

EcoCocon combines timber and straw in a precision-manufactured wall system. Designed for high thermal performance, airtightness and vapour permeability, the system also stores biogenic carbon within the building fabric.

Bringing EcoCocon to the UK and Ireland is about making this type of construction more accessible. As the official distributor and technical partner across both markets, we can support architects, contractors and clients from the early stages of a project through to installation.

We’re incredibly proud to see EcoCocon recognised alongside some of the most innovative products and systems in timber construction this year.

Next stop: the Structural Timber Awards in Birmingham on 7 October! 🌾
