I’m really happy (and a little surprised!) to share that I’ve been named a finalist in the Artist of the Year Awards 2025.

With awards like these you never really know what the outcome will be, but it means a lot just to be recognised and to have progressed this far. It’s a lovely boost and I’m obviously very grateful to the judges.

Keep an eye out for the winners’ announcement soon! 🤞

I’m really pleased to share that I’ve been shortlisted for the Artist of the Year Awards 2025, in the Best New & Emerging Artist category.

This follows my inclusion on the longlist last month, and I’m genuinely grateful to the judges for recognising my work at this level. It’s always encouraging, but especially so when the work is deeply personal.

As part of my submission, I shared my self-portrait with the following description:

“For this piece I wanted to paint a stark, unflinching self portrait. As an Autistic person the idea of my own face is sometimes abstracted and morphed by masking, and I wanted to convey this with a blank, emotionless depiction that doesn’t hint at the turmoil under the surface.”

Finalist announcements are expected soon, so fingers crossed. I’ll post an update when I hear more.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support my work.

I’ve been quiet on the socials over the last couple of months (partly due to focussing on a bunch of new projects), but pleased to announce that I’ve been long listed for the Artist of the Year Awards 2025.

In their own words: “The VAA Artist of the Year 2025 Award celebrates artistic excellence, recognising talent at all levels. With a £10,000 prize package, career-boosting courses and memberships, and a prestigious group exhibition in London for the overall winner, this award provides artists with the recognition, support, and opportunities they deserve to elevate their careers.”

I’ve included some artworks that formed part of my application so you can see what the judges saw.

Shortlist judging results will be announced in late August 2025, watch this space! 🤞

Really chuffed that I’ve made it on to the Extended Longlist for the Jackson’s Art Prize 2025.

The judges selected 3,168 works from the 12,964 entries that were submitted, reducing down the pool by 75% at this first round. This means that I’m in the top 25% of entrants, which is nice!

The two pieces that have been selected are “Eric” a portrait of my late Grandad, and “Self portrait”, which unsurprisingly is of me.

I’m obviously a long way from winning anything (the regular Longlist is announced next Friday on the 21st of March, followed by the shortlist, then winners), but as an emerging artist it feels amazing to get this recognition for the work I’ve been doing over the last 6 months or so. Working on my own in my home studio it can be hard to know if I’m moving my work in the right direction, but this feels like a small but important validation.

I’ve added a link to the Extended Longlist in my bio if you want to take a look at the entries. To find my work search using the artwork titles mentioned above ☝️

New photos of recent work have gone up on my portfolio website, check it out for a more detailed view of these pieces.

I’ve also implemented a dark mode on the site, so if you’re not a fan of the black on white colour scheme, or if it’s more difficult to read/view for you, just hit the icon in the navigation to invert the colour scheme.

1 hour painting number 3. Really pleased with how this came out, it’s always a bit of a gamble when it’s such a quick painting, you never quite know how it’s going to turn out!

Painted from photo reference in oils on A3 canvas (non stretched).

Another 1 hour portrait completed recently. This one came in at about 50 minutes, so I could be getting a bit quicker…

I find it freeing working on these small, rapid pieces. They’re low pressure, as they’re just tests for my own development, and it doesn’t really matter how they turn out.

Am also liking the looseness, something I think comes from not having a sketched reference on the canvas before I start. I’m definitely winging it with these 1 hour pieces!

Will definitely be doing more of these in the future 🙂
