The Opportunity

As part of a small but growing team, you will work across a variety of commercial sites, delivering consistently high standards of grounds maintenance.

This role offers clear progression into a Team Leader position as the company continues to expand, making it ideal for someone ready to take the next step in their career.

You will be based from our yard near Aldermaston, with a mix of team-based and independent working, so a high level of professionalism and self-motivation is essential.

Working hours are 7:00am to 4:00pm, offering a consistent daily schedule.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and is committed to delivering high standards.
• Minimum 2 years’ grounds maintenance experience
• PA1 & PA6 certification (essential)
• Full UK driving licence (held for a minimum of 2 years)
• Strong work ethic with a proactive approach
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Reliable, professional, and career-driven
• Must be able to commute to our yard near Aldermaston

Trainee / Entry Level Grounds Maintenance Operative (Ages 16–24)

We are seeking motivated and reliable individuals looking to start a long-term career in the grounds maintenance and horticulture industry.

Salary: £18,000 – £25,000 per year (dependent on experience and driving licence)
£25 London day bonus
Overtime available
Full training provided with paid horticultural qualifications

Working hours: 6:30am – 4:00pm

Duties include grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, planting and general grounds maintenance across various sites, including London. You will be working as part of a professional and supportive team within a growing company.

Transport:
We can offer local pick-up where possible, otherwise you must be able to make your own way to the yard in Tadley for the 6:30am start.

No experience is required. We are looking for candidates who are punctual, hardworking, reliable and keen to learn.
A driving licence is preferred but not essential and will be reflected in salary.

Ideal for school leavers, college leavers, or anyone aged 16–24 seeking a structured career with real progression.

Today JHM had a day off and had the privilege of being shown around the Reading FC training facility. A big thank you to Head Groundsman Matt Gardiner for taking the time to show us around – you can really see the effort that he and his team put in.

We are looking forward to supporting Reading FC with some grounds maintenance work in the future.

The team also enjoyed a round of 18 holes afterwards, and the weather was on our side which made it even better.

Exciting News from JHM Grounds Care

The last few weeks have been incredibly busy for our team – and thanks to the hard work, high performance, and consistently high standards delivered by everyone here, we’re growing.

From 1st September, we’ll be welcoming an additional full-time Grounds Maintenance Operative to the JHM Grounds Care family.

To support this expansion, we are also investing in new equipment and resources to continue delivering the quality service our clients rely on.

We’re now looking to take on additional grounds maintenance projects across the Thames Valley. We’ve put together a map showing our key areas of focus – but if you’re based outside these areas, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re excited to share that JHM is continuing to grow, and the last few weeks have been full of success!

We’ve recently completed a number of social housing sites across Southampton and Bournemouth. We’re happy to say that as of August, we’ll be taking these sites on permanently. These projects are for an FM client we’ve built a strong relationship with, thanks to our team’s hard work, on-time delivery, and high standards.

We’ve also just secured 40 more sites across London and the South East for commercial garage maintenance. This is a big step for us and shows the trust our client has in JHM to continue delivering great service.

This week, we also started work on new sites for a national contractor. The work took us to some amazing places, and we’ve really enjoyed meeting the people on site. We even received great feedback from the client, who said our efforts were noticed and appreciated. We’ll keep that same energy going with every visit.

On a different note, we’ve begun work on a sensory and habitat garden for a local school in Reading. It’s starting to take shape, and we’ll share pictures soon!

It’s been another positive couple of weeks at JHM!

We’ve kicked off a great new partnership at Heathrow, starting airside vegetation maintenance work for our new client. We’re now working on-site two days a week on a permanent basis. Heathrow is such a fascinating and dynamic place to work, and we’re proud to be part of it.

On the domestic side, our maintenance services continue to grow, with a strong and regular client base building steadily.

Next week marks the start of all our new garage block projects, with plenty of new sites and ad hoc works ready to roll out.

We’re also continuing to expand our work with one of our most valued clients—supporting them with Japanese knotweed treatments, DNA sampling, and the removal of invasive species such as Himalayan balsam and hogweed along public walkways.

Exciting times ahead as we continue to grow and deliver high-quality environmental services!

A garden brought back to life just in time for the sunshine!

We recently got a call from a lovely customer whose garden had sadly become unmanageable due to health issues affecting both her and her husband. She told us how much she missed being able to sit outside and enjoy the space, especially with the nicer weather on the way.

At JHM Groundcare, we knew we had to help. Even with a packed schedule, we made the extra effort to get her booked in last minute—and we’re so glad we did.

After a good tidy-up and a lot of graft, the garden is now back to a manageable state, and she can finally enjoy it again just as she hoped.

It’s jobs like this that remind us why we do what we do.
