Since my last update, we’ve completed the float coat and final skim coat to the newly relathed ceiling, bringing this restoration project to a successful finish.

Working on a house that dates back to 1130 has been a real highlight. Buildings like this are incredibly rare, and it’s fascinating to think about the amount of history contained within its walls. Nearly 900 years of craftsmanship, alterations and stories have shaped this property, making it a privilege to play a part in its ongoing preservation.

The finished ceiling now sits perfectly in keeping with the character of the house, combining traditional materials and techniques with the care needed for a building of this age. We also completed the overboarding and plastering of one of the upstairs bedroom ceilings as part of the works.

A very rewarding project from start to finish and one I’ll certainly remember. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to work on a property that’s stood for almost nine centuries.

Extension Transformation Completed Buttermilk KRend Finish

This extension has been completely transformed from tired and deteriorating to clean, modern and weatherproof.

After removing all of the old render, we uncovered brickwork that was in a much worse condition than expected. The mortar had failed in many areas, and sections of the brickwork were loose and crumbling.

Before any rendering work could begin, we had to fully repoint the extension to restore the integrity of the brickwork and provide a solid substrate for the new render system.

Once all the preparation work was completed, we applied our base coat before finishing the extension in a beautiful Buttermilk KRend.

The result is a fresh, modern finish that not only looks fantastic but will also provide long lasting protection against the elements.

A great example of why proper preparation is so important what’s underneath the render matters just as much as the finish itself.

What a week it’s been 👌
The weather has been perfect for rendering, and we’ve managed to complete three very different jobs this week for some great customers.

•Saturday & Sunday

Monocouche Render

We finished a full monocouche render system for a repeat customer. It’s always great to be asked back to carry out more work, which says a lot about the quality and trust we aim to provide. The finish has completely freshened up the property with a modern, clean look that will stay low maintenance for years to come.

•Monday & Tuesday

Traditional Sand & Cement Render

At the start of the week we completed a traditional sand and cement render with a smooth flat finish. A lot of preparation and attention to detail went into this one to achieve sharp lines and an even finish throughout. The final result looks clean, solid, and ready for decorating.

•Wednesday & Thursday

Roughcast Render Finish on New Extension

To finish off the week, we completed a roughcast render finish on a new extension, carefully matching the existing house so the new build blends in perfectly with the original property. Matching older finishes takes time, experience, and attention to detail, and we’re really pleased with how seamless the final result turned out.

Good start on this week’s job. This incredible house was built in 1130 and is full of history and character it’s amazing to think how many generations have lived and worked within these walls over the centuries. Being able to work on a property with so much history behind it is a real privilege.

Our task has been to remove and replace the lath and plaster ceiling. I only managed to get a photo of half the relathing as I forgot to take more before most of the scratch coat had already gone on. The scratch coat is now complete and ready for the float coat in June.

We’ve also overboarded and plastered the ceiling in one of the upstairs bedrooms.

Crowcombe Court lime project complete!

This one was taken right back to bare brick and fully restored using a traditional 3 coat lime system. A lot of time, care, and craftsmanship has gone into bringing this building back to life the right way.

Great to see it finished and looking as it should 👌

This week we’ve been back working for a repeat customer

We’ve been plastering all the artex ceilings upstairs, following on from the downstairs ceilings we completed back in February. Always good to come back and carry on a job through the rest of the house.

Everything’s coming up nice and smooth making a big difference already.

Another one coming together nicely!

Stage 3 complete 💪

Hallway, stairs, landing and bedroom all now fully skimmed and finished off, bringing everything together after the float.

Nice to have the apprentice getting involved as well got him laying on a couple of the walls and getting some good experience on the tools 👌

Good progress all round on this one, especially working to a tight schedule. On to the next.

Stage 2 complete 💪

Hallway, stairs, landing and bedroom all now floated out with Hardwall and looking spot on. After finding how badly blown the walls were at the start of the job, it’s been a full turnaround getting everything back to a solid, level base.

All completed on a tight time schedule as well, keeping things moving without cutting any corners

Now ready to get started on skimming tomorrow and bring it all together with a clean finish.

Stage 1 complete 💪

Hallway, stairs, landing and bedroom all stripped back. Originally we were only booked in to skim everything, but once the wallpaper was removed it was clear just how badly blown the walls were.

Decision made to take it all back properly and start fresh full rip out done and everything now prepped with a clean, solid base. Now ready to be floated out with Hardwall to get it back level and right before finishing.

Always worth doing it properly rather than going over a poor surface
