A few photos of a wonderful volunteering session with Capgemini Telford staff.

Working on Langley Fields - one of Telford and Wrekin Council newest and yet most diverse Local Nature Reserves, the brief was to fend off encroaching (and unwelcome) plant growth from the valuable pockets of lowland Heath habitat, to protect the sensitive species which thrive here, which include bees, butterflies, birds and reptiles.

The results were incredible, the team worked their socks off - a combined total of 56 volunteer hours renovating an amazing 1609sq/m of priority habitat, which is home to a wide range of species including the red-listed endangered Dingy Skipper butterfly and the medium concern Green Hairstreak (the former was seen flitting around as we worked on the site 😀)

I’m looking forward to many more sessions and projects with Capgemini over the next 12 months as they’ve made a big commitment to more local conservation and engagement projects 🙏

Half term is done but let’s take a brief moment to reflect on what some of that looked like? Circumnavigating the Holy Island coast path with my own brood carrying all of our gear on our backs!

42kms of rugged terrain completed and I am in awe at how the kids (aged 10 and 13) have not only coped but relished the experience. It’s was hot, then cold and misty and then hotter again! We camped through an electrical storm that nearly took the tents down but then found remote coves to swim and explore that were stunning too.

A trip that had everything and I’m incredibly proud of them.

Back to work now catching up and promoting all the values this adventure involved; Being active, connecting with our natural world and living with low impact (with sessions with Telford schools and businesses firmly on the calendar ❤️)

Now is the time of year to really enjoy our beautiful conker trees…. …because in just a handful of weeks this invasive insect will have decimated their leaves 😳
