It's really amazing how this virus is affecting absolutely every corner of life, even those that are imaginary. Of course, as a writer, you get to decide the rules of the world you create, but if your genre is real life, you have to reflect life as it really is... and we just don't know what that will look like in a year's time. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Never mind newly minted corona lockdown stories, authors are frantically rewriting existing projects to reflect a world turned upside down by the pandemic – or shelving them indefinitely

Are left-handed people better at languages?
This is an interesting article (and not just because Frontline Genomics' tagline is "Unzipping genes for the good of humanity"). It seems we lefties really are special, with areas of our brains differently developed from righties. It's been suggested that the areas in which these differences occur could mean that left-handed people are better at verbal communication. As someone who's always found my way quite instinctively with talking various languages, I feel this could apply to me. But what do you think? Any lefties whose strengths lie elsewhere? I know there are righties who excel in languages - but does it come easily or do they work bloody hard at it?
?

Being left-handed could be down to differences in brain architecture, a new study has shown. Only 10% of the population are left-handed, as has been the case for thousands of years, but previous studies have struggled to identify the reasons behind this. Using data from the UK Biobank, the genomes o...

Excited for Monday morning!

I'm currently working with a great start up who do these amazing immersive games in London, with a focus on incorporating acts of volunteering into the game. I'm providing them with web copy, but also social media templates, chat bot scripts, corporate emails, and anything else they need.

I'm also doing some work for a friend who is an *award winning* film director and producer ( ) - I'm putting together the dialogue list for his feature film, Above The Clouds. Two very different jobs which tick two very different boxes in me - my need to contribute to something worthwhile and my need to be involved in the arts.

Technically, I specialise in providing copy for websites, but I absolutely LOVE having these different jobs come up. What makes your Mondays fun?

Happy Book Lovers Day! šŸ“š
Which book (or books!) would you recommend people read, and why? What genre do you like? Are you a fiction person, or non fiction?

"Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light."

Summer holiday ahoy! I didn't think I was getting a break this year, but the universe (the in laws, anyway) have provided, and the Hesketh-Joneses are heading off for a few days in a caravan next week! I'm excited, we haven't been away in ages, so to celebrate I'm having a sale - ONE WEEK ONLY!

I will check and supercharge your web copy (up to five pages) for just £77 - normally £99. If you want to test the water first, a home page web copy revamp is now just £27! (Normally £47.) These prices hold til Friday 9th August, 5pm - and there are just ten spaces!

My lovely client, voiceover artist and radio presenter Natalie Silverman, had this to say about the service: "Victoria did a brilliant job at rewriting my voiceover website and with such speed. I was so impressed with her work, capturing what I was trying to say perfectly and reworking it to make the words pop off the page. I'm keen to get her casting her eye over my other sites."

Message or call me for a quick chat, and I'll fit you in before I go and stuff ice creams in East Sussex.

It's Yorkshire Day today, and I can't help feeling so sad for all of those caught up in the sudden flooding there. My glorious, funny, naughty grandmother, who as a girl hung out of windows to chat to boys, or got told off for talking in the church choir (to boys – there was a theme there), was from God’s Own County, and even after over 50 years down south, she still had a discernible Yorkshire accent, which got more pronounced when she talked about her childhood. Her father, my great grandfather, was a head gardener at places like Sion Hill Hall, and didn’t like her using ā€˜thees and thous’. But I’m glad she did, even if it was just for jest in later years, and I love this chap, Ben Taylor, for keeping the dialect alive. I also love his poetry – it’s not fancy, but it’s warm and honest. Very much like my grandmother.

A couple of fond memories I've got abart the national favourite!

Who’s ever done this? Just taken a leap of faith and jumped in with both feet? It’s a leap into the unknown, and to be perfectly honest, you don’t really know what you’re going to get out of it. Until you try it!

This is my Webcheck Challenge. I will check over your website* for Ā£99. If the copy is perfect - meaning I find nothing that needs changing - you pay only Ā£20 – which is less than my normal hourly rate!

What have you got to lose? Contact me at [email protected], and put ā€˜Webcheck Challenge’ as your subject header. Let’s take the plunge!

A thank you post to all the trumpet blowers out there!

Since going freelance, I’ve discovered I’m not great at pitching myself. I know I’m good at what I do (cringe), but to actually say that feels over-bearing, arrogant and just too … SALES-y … to me. Obviously, this could make things a bit tricky in terms of winning business, so it’s a good job I have great contacts prepared to blow my trumpet for me.

This week I’m continuing work with my lovely long-term author client, who found me via recommendation exactly two years ago; today, thanks to a recommendation, I’ve made a new connection with the National Fruit Show, hopefully to get involved in an interesting project with them; and later this week I’ll be having a preliminary chat with another potential new client on her fascinating piece of work – also thanks to recommendation.

I’m incredibly grateful to those who have recommended me over the last couple of years - Emma Cox, Sonia Andre, Sarah Calcutt, Kirsty Lewis you rock!

I think personal recommendations speak volumes, and they can really help a person out if they struggle with tooting the horn, like I do. Who can you recommend today?

Hey entrepreneurs, business owners, folks out there striving to make a difference to other people’s lives! I’m not going to sugar coat it, I see a lot of people offering incredible services, but their website is letting them down with poorly written copy.

Let me help you secure your ideal clients: I’ll sort out your typos and grammatical errors, and make sure you’re using language that will grab the attention of your potential customers, making them sit up and say, ā€œOh hey, you’re talking about me!ā€

You’ll get:

• a phone or skype call with me to get to know you and your business, talk over any areas of concern you have with your copy, and cover exactly who your target client is
• up to five web pages thoroughly checked through, rewritten, spruced up and sparkling in all the right ways
• new copy provided back in an unformatted table so whoever maintains your website can easily copy and paste it back in.

All for £150. Book in with me now by popping a message across to me here. And if you know of anyone else that might be interested, please send them my way.
