Hello, I’m Anna, I am the founder of Ovis.
I thought it was time to properly introduce myself and share my story of starting Ovis.
The idea for Ovis came from a reality many sheep farmers will recognise, for years, wool prices have been so low that it often costs more to shear the sheep than the wool is worth.
I was in that exact situation myself. I had two years’ worth of wool piled up at the side of the shed, with no viable market for it. Watching it sit there felt completely wrong, wool is such a versatile, natural material, yet it had become a cost and a problem. Too often, wool like this ends up stockpiled, dumped or even burnt.
I knew the benefits of using raw fleeces in the garden, from improving soil structure and water retention to slowly releasing nutrients. But in reality, fleeces are hard for gardeners to access, store and handle, which puts most people off using them.
That’s when it clicked. By pelletising the wool, it could be turned into something clean, consistent, and easy for anyone to use, while still keeping all the natural benefits of the wool itself.
That’s how Ovis began. Today, I’m turning raw sheep’s wool into natural wool pellets for gardens and growing, helping add value back into wool, support farmers, and offer gardeners a peat-free, plastic-free, soil-loving alternative that actually works.
I’m still very much on the journey, learning, testing and scaling up but I’m proud to be building something rooted in farming, sustainability, and practical solutions.
Thanks for being here and if you’d like to start using wool pellets in your own garden, they’re available at - www.oviswoolpellets.com
