David Sherlock Home Improvements Double glazing installation/repair service, based in St Leonards-On-Sea, East Sussex. I have the ability to either repair or replace your uPVC Windows & Doors.

I am a double glazing installer/service engineer, based in St Leonards-On-Sea, covering East Sussex. REPAIRS
With most companies these days only wanting to replace the whole window/door, I can repair/replace the part that is faulty, usually at a fraction of the cost. No Fix No Fee. This service consists of replacing Locks, Handles, Hinges, Sealed Units, Rubber Seals and Adjustments, without the up

heaval or expense of replacing the framework. REPLACEMENT
I am Certass registered and install high quality uPVC Windows (A Rated), Doors, Porches. These use the latest specification of glass and locks, and come with a 10-Year Insurance Backed Guarantee. I also replace roofline such as Fascia's and guttering, with rot proof uPVC. I always remove the old timber boards, and never 'cap over' the old wood. I do everything in the company myself, so you will never be handed from one person to another. I use no salesmen or staff, so you will deal solely with me from start to completion. I try to offer a prompt and polite service, and I am always happy to help.

This is a job I recently carried out in Bexhill.
I worked for this customer at the beginning of the year, and they were considering replacing this door and window at some point in the future, and then when the large sealed unit broke a few weeks later, they chose to opt for the whole replacement rather than just a new sealed unit.

They also asked me to re-point the brickwork at the same time, as they didn't like the light sandy colour of the existing joints, so me being me, mixed up some samples from two different sand brands, and then once they had dried for a few weeks gave the customer the choice of sand and mix.

The result was exactly what customer wanted.
Me working by myself and being the only point of contact, ensures the result that the customer is looking for is not lost between sales reps and staff, which can happen when working with larger companies.

A lot of people either don't or forget to lubricate their multipoint locking mechanisms, and even more so in properties where there is multiple people using the doors daily.

This local nursery found their door wouldn't lock, so I visited them at the end of one day last week, once all the children had gone home so I was able to work uninterrupted.
The locking points and main gearbox were heavily corroded inside, so I replaced them, and now the door works like new.

No call out fee, I just charge for the work I do, which includes 20+ years of experience of double glazing work.

Wishing everyone a safe May Day, whether you're in the pubs in Hastings old town or on the roads on two wheels.
For once I'm not working this Bank Holiday, so home with the family for a change.

I do have an full A licence, but work and family used to make it hard finding the time to get out on my bike (even if one of the smaller Sherlocks seemed keen!!), so I sold it a few years ago but I used to love an evening ride out to Dungeness.

There is nothing more free and equally feeling so vulnerable as riding a motorbike, so please if you're out today, double check those blind spots and check for filtering bikes in your mirrors.

This was a very satisfying job I did in Bexhill recently, as it proved my bespoke 'hinge protection shroud' (patent pending😂) worked.

Normally when replacing door hinges, you can replace them one at a time with the door still in situe, but this type of hinge is screwed into the side of the door, so all three need replacing at the same time.
Being a stones throw from the sea, meant I knew the pins that hold them in place would be rusted, so would require cutting and drilling to get them off.

Hot metal fragments can burn upvc frames, and sparks can cause discolouration on glass, so protection is required.
In the past I've tried taping protective sheets and even dustpans directly underneath to provide protection.
A spare beer box that was destined for my recycling bin did the job perfectly and sat neatly around the hinge while I worked.

I believe this is the first pink door I've installed, and I love the colour contrast against the exterior walls.

This property in St Leonards the floor dipped as you stepped onto it, which isn't uncommon in period properties where they usually lack damp courses, this usually means the ends of floor rafters rot below the front door.

I removed the existing floor and took this opportunity to replace the soft brickwork below, with a concrete lintel and engineering bricks to support the new heavy composite door.
New chipboard floor was fitted back and then the original timber floor boards.

A few weeks later I returned to install the new door, and pleased to feel how solid the floor is, even with my weight standing on it!

Now the weather seems to be getting a bit nicer (apart from yesterday!), I'm doing a lot of repair work to existing doors and windows, where these are starting to be used more, and customers are wanting to get outside and open their windows more.

As usual all work is carried out by myself, and I bring a wealth of experience and knowlege to this subject, which is often a problem solving exercise, such as these door hinges are on an old Anglian door which is 25+ years old and the originals obsolete, so I fitted modern hinges in their place.

Even more when I order the correct scaffold tower!!
Was very close on this one, but could have done with the size smaller. Poles were touching the fence in this case!
Makes a change to be handling masonry rather than pvc.🧱

Any property built between 1940 - 1980 there is a good chance the original timber windows were used as a load bearing member, due to shortages after the war, and changes in build techniques meant external lintels were often not included.

So often customers can identify an internal lintel when they install their curtain rails, but the external skin of brickwork is independant, and due to the dubious practices in the double glazing industry over the years, there has often been a case of replacing timber windows with non-load bearing uPVC windows.

The settlement cracking was a give away, but knowing the property was a 'Larkin Build' was also a give away.
Larkin built a huge amount of Bexhill in the 60's, but most were with timber windows and no external lintels.

I've installed a steel lintel and pvc cavity tray, and then re-installed the brickwork in the original design, so once fully cured it should be hard to recognise the work has been carried out.

Here is a variety of repair work I've carried out recently to existing uPVC windows and doors, extending their lives replacing the worn/failed components, rather than replacing the whole frames.

Another wet and windy week just for a change.😕
I did this job in Hastings when there was actually some sunshine.🌞

I replaced both sealed units and cut a trickle ventilator into the existing frame.
I've seen these fitted where people just drill a series of holes, where I use a multi-tool to mimmic the way they are routed out in the factory, so the customer gets the full capacity of the ventilator.

I did offer the customer the option of a whole replacement frame, but like all my work there is never any pressure or hard sell, I simply present the customer with facts and answers, provide them my quote and then allow them to decide what they want to do.

This is a job I did just before Christmas in St Leonards, and was a very satisfying two days work, and exactly what I love about my job and how I operate as a company.

I meet the customers myself and discuss their requirements, then create their quotation and a specification of the product I am providing.
Once I have ordered the products, I then return and install them exactly how they should be.

The majority of window companies have a sales rep who liases with the customer, and then a surveyor to come and measure, and then eventually a two man fitting team come to do the work.

So many people in the process can easily lead to errors and miscommunication.
The way I operate I feel gives customers a more personal touch, and makes the whole process a lot less stressful for both parties.

In a classic case of 'I never win anything', this brown box arrived last week.
Not recalling ordering anything, it was a pleasant suprise to see the sender as Soudal, so could only be one thing.

I've used Soudal products for 20+ years now, and have always been happy with their quality, which also aligns with my own ethos of using good quality materials for my work.

I'm now a member of their new Soudal Network, so took a punt on winning this in their December newsletter.

Thank you Soudal UK.👍
