Away from the Chelsea crowds we took delivery of this stunning 18th century limestone trough from today, its hand chiselled surface holding the most precious patina, an exciting and vast piece which brought its own aura.

At 120cm width and a ton of weight, it took some expert measuring, manoeuvring and calmness from as it nudged through the gate into the walled garden.

Beautiful calm across the water meadows now dotted with sheep, with the nearby bustle of Salisbury train station a stones throw away in the background. Planted last year, today we were reviewing the planting on this windswept, frosty river bank garden, nurturing it into its first summer season after a wet and windy winter.
