Not a very colourful image, but this was one of my favourite designs I did whilst studying on my garden design diploma with because the brief was basically me - a busy mum of two small children who wanted a nice garden but didn't have the time to oversee it.

I designed a garden that would be easy to maintain and with multiple resting places and spots to keep an eye on the children. The children were given a sandpit and playhouse that can be adapted as they grow and the adults were given a sophisticated dining area to enjoy once the kids are (hopefully!) asleep.

I really enjoy working on small gardens and thinking about how they can be used by different generations and hope to do more of this sort of thing in the future!

3D concept of a cottage-style garden. This garden will feature lots of colour: think roses, foxgloves, lupins and geraniums. There will also be a productive area at the back for growing vegetables. Next up, figuring out the details and, the best bit, the planting plan!

Building up a planting plan for a partially shady area of a garden. It looks a bit confusing here but every plant gets a code and I work out the best place for each one so everything has a moment to shine. It will feature plants such as Astrantia 'Snow Star', Thalictrum 'Black Stockings' and Geranium Rozanne as well as grasses, shrubs and a beautiful Amelanchier lamarckii.

Planting a willow arch up at Sparsholt today. Can't wait to see this weave together as it grows. Willow is flexible and roots so easily making it a perfect choice for a natural arch.

Now is the time to start planning your summer borders so they are lush, colourful and insect-friendly because it's got to stop raining soon, right?!

Planting plans are my favourite part of garden design and I always try to select plants that not only look beautiful but also work in harmony with nature, encouraging those all-important pollinators.
