Have you been planning how to spend your bright sunnier days ahead of you?
We have, we quite often look for deals on garden visits for a jolly, it's 'resarch' of course!

One of our clients has kindly sent some Easter break photos of their garden waking up again.
At this time of year it features all the fresh green leaves of the many Japanese acres in the garden.
The brief for this garden was modern Japanese courtyard.
It needed to be low maintenance, with a pond and wildlife inviting.
We also needed to include an art studio and a veranda for having green tea under.
We packed a lot into this small space, with an area for a potting table, space for a fire bowl and a built in bench.
There are lots of raised borders and a spot for a large BBQ/pizza oven.
We also took out a huge line of thick laurel hedging gaining almost a meters width to work with. We installed a new fence and created a side area to hide away a small animal's cage, a bench with boot room pegs, and a small tool shed.
We also built the art studio insulated with double glazed windows and electrics.
It is tiled in reused Welsh slate and clad inside and out in locally sourced wood from our local sawmill.
Theres a kind of Murphy table cupboard which adds extra storage and provides space underneath for a small freezer.
Lots of bench space for art and music and old kitchen cupboards upcycled to fit the wall space.
Also tiled in Welsh state is a container on wheels planted with a wall of black stem bamboo.
Under the tall Acer is a small rockery. The customer was delighted to tell us that they have had frogs in the pond and black birds and robins nest and raise their fledglings in the garden.
Here's to hoping the return to have nests again this year.
We loved to see how our spaces bring such joy to our clients even years after the spaces have been built.

This week we were back to complete the finishing touches to this contemporary Japanese garden.
At the rear side we left it open in order to allow the Japanese concept of 'borrowing' the landscape to become part of the garden.
To do this we created our iconic split railing fence. Added to this we picked out materials and plants in keeping with Japanese garden design principles.
We have stepping stones to cause the visitor to concentrate on the hear and now.
We included varieties of acers, a cherry tree, bamboo, azeleas, grasses, ferns, achilleas and heucheras.
We were so greatful for such a wonderful brief from our client, It was an absolute joy to create in this space.

This is a split level modern family garden we created 2 years ago.
We have returned to this garden to do a spring tidy up and wanted to share some pictures of it in it's more mature state.
On the first level, the decking area to begin with was just a slither. We started by digging back by a meter into the bank and secured it with a sleeper retaining wall.
we also rebuilt the steps so that the incline and dimensions worked better. The alteration made the steps a more spacious distance from the rear door.
Next level up we graded the lawn space out leveling it flat and re planted the lawn.
We also included small boarders to the side, with alpine plants, grases and specimen trees.
Amoungts which, we have a cherry tree and an Acer which brings height into the garden.
The final layer, there was cracked concrete and a large dilapadated shed.
This was removed and a slate patio laid ready to build the arbour area.
Gabions were filled with cut slate and the rubble.
These acted as a retainer barrier to the surrounding gardens and as a ledge for seating.
Finally to the side, a bespoke small bike shelter was built which also house some tools in an awkward shaped side access.
All in all it's added much more useable space for a family that really love their garden and being outdoors.
So glad it's still being well loved and enjoyed two years on.
Thanks for having us do a garden makeover 🌱

As it's transitioning into autumn & winter, trees very much become some of the stars of the garden.
The obvious splendor to notice is the heartwarming orange and red colours of leaves or perhaps the minty greens of spruce and pine..
but have you also noticed how very elegant and surprising a cherry can be!?
Just look at the bark on the trunk and stems of these trees..
infact many trees have gorgeous bark too and are well worth planting for that fact allone.
See if you can notice any trees around you which stand out this autumn winter 🍁

For those of you who follow our page and are in the worcetershire area we just wanted to highlight a wonderful therapeutic garden spot in the city centre on the edge of the race course. Transition Worcester Community Garden
It has recently won an award for being such a brilliant charity and we agree.
To see gardening as a way to create community and meaningful connections both with nature and within friendships is what garden spaces do best.
Not to mention the satisfaction of doing something practical with the support of other gardeners and the peace that comes from sitting on a bench and smelling the flowers.
We highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

We don't often share videos of a work in progress,
but this project is pulling together so well we thought we would give you a taster before it is completed 🌿

Some before and afters of a front and back garden we completed last year.
It has now filled out and is in full bloom.
The front garden is a cottage garden theme with a bike shed, wood storage and large drainage sump concealed under the raised border.
The rear garden is full sun and literally had heaps of concrete, so we worked with the conditions and created a mediterranean courtyard.
This includes an arbour, rasied borders, drainage and BBQ space.
It also included a porch and integration of drain cover.
Both gardens were created with many found and re-used materials from local sales to not only help with the budget but also to add to the character and quality of the build.
The planting has filled out beautifully and we are glad to say has provided several lovely spots to sit and enjoy smelling the roses.
