SALE TIME!
We hope you are keeping well and enjoying the glorious summer weather with your plants.

Apologies for the radio silence! Our trip abroad last year took a few Covid-related twists and turns. Since returning other work commitments have taken up a lot of time and now, we’re expecting a new arrival in September 👶.
So, it looks as though Superb Herbs will stay in hibernation for a little while longer, but we will be back!

-- Herbal Home Beauty DIY: Green tea and chamomile facial spritz

Green tea is high in polyphenols, a large group of plant-based chemical compounds that help maintain your body’s health. It’s good for your skin and helps to protect it from environmental pollutants.
For this reason, it's great in a facial spritz, combined with soothing chamomile and astringent witch hazel. This is a lovely pick-me-up, giving you a burst of herbal goodness in those most needed moments.
You'll need:
3 tsp green tea
2 tsp dried chamomile flowers
1 dessert spoon distilled witch hazel
500ml hot water

1. Place the water in a heat resistant bowl, add the green tea and chamomile.
2. Infuse for 15 mins with a lid over the bowl.
3. Strain and allow to cool. When cold, add the distilled witch hazel and pour into a spritzer bottle.
4. Store in the fridge if possible for a refreshing toner to pep you up throughout the day! This is a lovely pick-me-up, giving you a burst of herbal goodness in those most needed moments.

-- Tea time --
Herbal tea is one of the simplest ways to enjoy your wonderful herb harvest and a brilliant prompt to make you sit back and relax, even if just for a moment.

Here are our top tips on brewing the perfect cuppa when using soft parts of a herb such as leaves or flowers.

Amounts*
🥄1 tsp of dried herbs per cup
🥄1 tbsp of fresh herbs per cup

Pour boiling water over the herb, and put a lid on your cup or pot! This stops all of the goodness from evaporating into the air around your cup and keeps it in there for you Allow to steep for 10-15 minutes. Enjoy!

Next up for our mindfulness exercise, this time a simple breathing technique I utilise when I feel the metaphorical pot start to boil inside my head 🤯 or if I'm about to go into an interview/big meeting:

1. Breathe in deeply for three seconds.
2. Hold your breath there for four seconds.
3. Breathe out deeply for five seconds.
4. Aaand repeat!
5. Do this for five repetitions.

-- Hyssop --
Another Mediterranean herb which gets slightly overshadowed by some of its 'big-hitter' herb companions. But it's definitely a wonderful one to try, great in a sunny well-drained spot.

Pictured here is a pink flowering variety, it also has white and bluey/purpley flowered varieties.

The leaves are aromatic, with a deep, slightly spicy, sometimes even slightly menthol taste. Great used in sauces and roasts. The flowers can be infused into a sweet syrup, in fruit tarts or steeped in jars of sugar.

🐝 Try to leave a few flowers for your pollinator garden friends though as they always love them!

✂️If you have one in your garden now, don't worry if it's looking a little rough around the edges. Give it a spring haircut and it'll be looking a million dollars in no time!
