In celebration of International Women’s Month, we are delighted to share our MA showcase: ‘You’re Invited: Women’s Ways of Knowing,’ hosted in Accra, Ghana in December 2025.

You Are Invited was a spatial showcase centering women’s lived experiences and everyday practices that shape urban life in Accra and beyond. We foreground forms of knowledge often overlooked in dominant narratives of city-making: embodied expertise passed through generations; the recipes of grandmothers; memories of neighbourhoods; navigating market routes; sensing the street after dark.

The showcase extended the collaboration between Black Females in Architecture and Ɛdan Ghana, who together co-designed and co-curated a dedicated public space in Osu, Accra, for the duration of the programme.

The showcase was our first actualised project on the continent and a continuation of our exploratory research practice titled ‘Ma’. The Showcase platformed the works of Women from Africa and the diaspora - Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Namibia, USA, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Uganda.

The BFA Mentoring Programme is in its third year! And we are delivering a structured professional development programme over 12 months, consisting of five workshops combining in-person and online sessions.
The programme supports professionals, early-career individuals and students through practical skills development at key stages of architectural education and practice. Sessions focus on CV and portfolio development, public speaking, interview skills, and applying for jobs in architecture, and conclude with an in-person careers fair.

The events are open to all, however, members of the BFA community have priority access and discounted rates.💫

📍The programme will be hosted by our partners Roca Gallery with in person events happening in London and the online events open to our international community.

The BFA Mentorship Programme was initiated by two BFA members, Alice Farmer and Stephanie Adebayo who are currently leading it too.

Alice is a registered architect currently working at Gensler in London. She is a graduate from Newcastle University, Central Saint Martins and Westminster University.

Stephanie is a Senior Development Manager who began her career at Foster and Partners after studying Interior Design Environment Architecture at Ravensbourne.

19:00, Thursday 12th March

Part Four is relaunching with a new partnership between the Architecture Foundation and ALL PROJECTS, a new gallery space dedicated to the intersection of art, architecture, design and fashion.

The series is aimed at those early stage career architects or those defining their own practice, and takes the form of an open, audience-led conversation. Each event brings together a panel of speakers responding to a central theme, beginning with pre-submitted questions before opening the discussion to the room.

Launching alongside International Women’s Day, the first event will focus on gender in practice, from structural barriers and inequalities to alternative models of working and practising today. Each speaker will give a short five-minute presentation on their experience of starting and developing a practice before the conversation opens up.

Speakers include:

Biba Dow
Jane Hall
Seetal Solanki
Selasi Setufe
Stephanie Macdonald

Chair: Alberte Lauridsen

Location: Unit 3 Mill Row, Hoxton, N1 5RA

As the year draws to an end, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the past 12 months. We’ve had incredible milestones this year, made some leaps as well as changes to the very core of how we’re working. Here are our top 5 highlights from 2025:

1. Starting with being part of one of five shortlisted teams for the Grenfell Memorial Commission. Our team was lead by  Architects and BFA was brought in as community leads as well as co-designers alongside Habitat Unit .feleke. It was a challenging and emotional process through which we had opportunities to spend time with survivors, bereaved, and the affected community. It was an incredible privilege to spend time listening. Thank you.

2. Putting our all into our inaugural exhibition ‘Earth, Memory and the Spaces We Inhabit‘. A collaboration between BFA, DēpArt  and Ɛdan  and Cianeh A. Kpukuyou photography and videography. Supported by the Public Discourse program at .institute for the 2025. This exhibition was one of a series of takeovers at NOW Gallery, Greenwich Peninsula. 📸 Alberto Romano

3. Our team grew: We welcomed Ayomipo Odedina  and Tioluwalase Delight Olojede . During the London exhibition we briefly expanded our project team with Alem Derege .design_, Elizabeth Olulodé. More recently, we welcomed back Ama Ofori-Darko .oforidarko and Nompsy Chigaru . 📸

4. Our MA Ghana Showcase: ‘YOU ARE INVITED’. A collaboration with is currently on now, go check it out! The closing event will be held on 8th January, and is titled ‘Cities in Conversation: Accra and London is in collaboration with UAL (University of the Arts London)’ 📸

5. Organising and co-hosting the  Pan-African Biennale’s Pre Launch Event ‘Shifting the Center: From Fragility to Resilience’ with Noma UK  supported by the  at  in London, with a gorgeous set by .sounds

Welcoming Ama as Project Manger!✨

Ama Ofori-Darko is an architect and researcher exploring design at the intersection of community, faith and diasporic identity. Her practice was cultivated on the MPhil in Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Cambridge, where she began ongoing research on the urban condition of churches within London’s African and Caribbean communities. She has also studied at the Kingston School of Art and the Architectural Association, driving her interest in how academia can broaden its canon to recognise overlooked forms of knowledge, in a bid to empower architectural education’s increasingly diverse student body.
Ama is a Project Architect at Studio Gil, working on the renovation of a church and community asset located in North London. Outside of practice, she is a contributor on the Church of England’s Net Zero & Building Services Committee - the national body tasked with ensuring the Church of England’s building portfolio meets its environmental commitments by the year 2045.
Working for BFA on a consultancy basis, she was invited with them as a participant at the 2023 Venice Biennale, managing delivery of their contribution and is currently project managing BFA’s second research project exhibition located in Accra, Ghana.

We’re sharing bittersweet news 💛 After seven incredible years, our very own Akua Danso has stepped down as Co-Director of BFA
Akua has been part of the very first steps of our journey, from that spark of connection in 2018 to building a global community of 550+ Black women in architecture. Her words in our recent ANIMA Magazine interview still resonate: “I recognised the power of that connection and feeling seen and understood.”
From championing our members, supporting the next generation, leading two powerful mentoring cohorts, to shaping our contribution to the Venice Biennale 2023, Akua’s care and commitment have been at the heart of BFA.
As she enters a new chapter, we’re grateful for the sisterhood, the leadership, and the memories we’ve built together, and we’ll continue cheering her on always.
With love,
The BFA Team
