A perfect patio always starts with the right base.

On this job the ground was very boggy, so we carried out a 220mm dig out to remove the soft ground and build a proper foundation.

First, a geotextile membrane was installed to keep the soil and hardcore separated and prevent sinking over time.

The build-up included:
• 50mm of 3" clean stone for drainage
• 100mm of 804 hardcore

Each layer of hardcore was compacted every 50mm to ensure a solid, stable base.

Only once the foundation was right did we begin laying the porcelain slabs on a full 50mm sand and cement bed, with every slab fully primed (slurry coated) on the back for maximum bond.

Porcelain might look beautiful on the surface, but what’s underneath is what makes it last.
