What with everyone telling me to take it easy for a while, I thought it best to postpone the planned raised beds made out of logs until I’m fully fit. The plan was to fill them with Marshmallo Strawberries, the giant juicy ones we grew by the wheelbarrowfull in Kildtess Walled Garden. This easier option was to transplant the Strawberries into an existing bed, and worry about where the Peas are going later in the year. As ever, time for a lie down. 😊🍓

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day the only way we know - planting the spuds in the rain. Just the 6 varieties this year - Red Duke Of York, Pink Duke Of York, Duke Of York, Purple Rain (which hopefully will not cause us any sorrow), Charlotte & Queens.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🥔

Reared these Asparagus plants from seed 3 years ago when we were at Kildress Walled Garden. They were blown all over the garden and neighbouring fields last year by Storm Eowyn, after someone *cough* left them outside. Can’t get the staff etc.

After gathering them up, potting them on and over-Wintering them yet again, they today found their new home. The weather even gave us all a glimpse of Spring. 😎

New additions to the drive - a pair of Quince trees. Planted very slowly and very carefully of course, but I really couldn’t resist. Makes the best sauce - when paired with a Bramley Apple - you could wish for. Easy does it…

First post of the year has to be chitting the spuds with plenty of time until planting on St. Patrick’s Day. 🥔 Must remember to make the signs this year so we know what we’re eating when Summer comes!

A belated thank you for the private messages, prayers & thoughts following my bleed on the brain shenanigans in December. There’s a Mark Twain quote in there somewhere, but I’m well on my way to a full recovery and should be digging away merrily come March. Should be some year!

This end-of-November mizzly weather isn’t getting in the way of developing our new permanent Strawberry patches. There’ll be a couple of raised beds going up right about there, and the currants, now they’re established, getting a good clean up and mulch at the same time.
