Morning folks, just a wee post about a few things to look out for when getting a company to fit pvc fascia and soffit to your property.
The photos below were taken at a house we are working on, replacing the existing Brown pvc fascia.
As you can see, when we started to strip the old stuff off we discovered a few issues with the previous fitting technique.

1. The J channel to hold the soffit is nailed in place but left 15mm from the timber batten. This is not a good way to install this channel, as it can create movement in the soffit due to wind and in turn cause damage.
At GSM, we would fit a continuous treated timber batten, where required, to give a sound and solid fixing for the J channel.

2. The plastic DPC felt protection has been totally fitted incorrectly.
The previous installers have placed the DPC between the timber fascia and the pvc fascia, this is wrong and totally defeats the purpose of installing it.
The purpose of installing a DPC front edge felt repair, is to create an extension of your existing roofing felt to make sure it reaches the gutter. This involves removing the front row of tiles and placing the DPC under your existing roofing felt, this renew’s the bottom edge of the roofing felt and ensures that any moisture or rain water will come down the roof and out into the gutter.
