WORLD WETLANDS EVENT 2: KNOCKNAHILA BOG REWETTING PROJECT: BOG WALK AND TALK

Saturday, 7th of February 11:30am. This bog walk and talk is organised by Clare County Council’s Biodiversity Officer and Knocknahila Community Biodiversity Group. The field outing will describe the peatland ecology of Knocknahila Bog, demonstrate the peat dams and peat bunds that were installed to facilitate rewetting and hear from the landowner, members of Knocknahila Biodiversity Community Group and the Biodiversity Officer on the work that was completed. This event would suit local communities, farmers and interested individuals on the techniques and design of peatland rewetting and contracting. We are absolutely heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved nephew Ciaran.

He was an integral part of Hawthorn from a very young age, keeping us entertained as he played in our nursery, helping pot up plants with his Godfather Sean in the poly tunnels. He was an invaluable smiling and enthusiastic 8 year old assistant to Kathleen at our stall at the Kilrush Farmers market. In his teens and early twenties, he worked with our mowing and landscape crews all over the mid west, including work in the Wild Nephin National Park in Mayo.

He was funny, tenacious, hard working, and we adored him.

Rest in peace dearest Ciaran, thank you for all the joy, love and light you brought to us all.
