Style At No.5 Interiors

Style At No.5 Interiors I help people and businesses get the very best from their spaces, whether that’s a family home, a retail store, or a workplace.

My focus is on how spaces are actually lived in and used, not just how they look.

Why do I do what I do?

I know deep down within me that the spaces we surround ourselves with impact how we feel and behave.

I see it in my own world, clutter -> stress -> mind racing -> overwhelm -> impact on sleep -> guilt and around again.

Too often we try to change our habits and behaviours without looking at the environment we are in and how it is blocking us.

I want you to have a space that works for you, not anybody else. Your life, your values, your priorities, your home!

This is why i do what I do..

In the words of my clients..
" gave me confidence to proceed with my home renovation project"

"she listened to what we said we wanted and advised us on what we actually needed"

"I knew the feel and atmosphere i wanted but I didn't know how to create it"

"helped me to prioritise on what to focus on initially to make the most impact"

"the changes have greatly improved the rooms, created new spaces for us to enjoy"

"a plan for zoning which included instant, manageable and economical fixes"

Colour drenching is not a new thing, it's been around since the early 20th century when stately homes used a single colour in libraries and drawing rooms to create warmth and intimacy!

It is popular again now, but like everything that comes in and out of fashion it doesn't mean you should automatically do it!!

You need to figure out if it will work for your space.

Before you pick up the paintbrush ask yourself:

What happens in the space?
What time of the day is the space used?
Who uses it?
What are the features of the space?
Where do you want the eye to be drawn?
How high are the ceilings?
How much light does it get?
Do you even like the look of rooms all the one colour?
Where will you stop and start the colour?
Do you mind if your doors are two different colours on each side?
And so on...

Let me know, is it something you'd consider or you've already done?

Not to be harsh but it's your home, your life, your way of living, not anybody else's!

Everyone has their opinion and they are entitled to them, but you don't have to design your home for your friend or your sister or your mother-in-law!

I think the only way to be able to stand strong in the face of "helpful advice" is to know what you need from your home and know why you are doing things a certain way.

It takes time and thinking and maybe a bit of an honest look at how you live and how you want to live, but its worth it.

Your home and the environment you surround yourself with influences how you feel, how you think, how you behave. Your space can support you and help you thrive or it can do the opposite.

Its worth the time and energy to do this work.

If you are ready to design a home or workplace that works for you get in touch. Book a call or drop me a DM.

Don't get me wrong, I love Pinterest.
I use it for work and personal design projects BUT I don't use it to help me figure out what needs to happen in a space to make it work!

That's the work I do before I open Pinterest.

Looking at your life.
Your routines, habits, hobbies, work, family, relationships.
Figuring out what's working and what's not in the space.
Deciding what's important to you.
Looking at what's set up by default and not by intention
Looking to the future and what might change.

The pretty comes later and the pretty will never work, if you haven't figured this stuff out first!

It takes time, it takes a bit of reflection and the answers are not found on Pinterest or Instagram for that matter.

If you're ready to dig into this get in touch, its what my Space Strategy Sessions are for.

Decluttering is important, as is organising your room, tidying up and cleaning BUT they will not fix a space that is not working for the life you want to lead.

And no it doesn't mean you never have to clean up 😉

But if you really want to change your life you need to look at the environment you spend your days and nights in.

What do you surround yourself with?
Where are you trying to get to?
What do you want to achieve?
How do you want to live?

Your surroundings either support you get there or impede you.

But you need to give yourself time to think about it, really analyse what you want/need from your space.

If I can help you ask the right questions and figure out the answers get in touch. Its what my Space Strategy Session is all about

You can send yourself into a head spin drooling over interior design spreads and browsing through furniture shops. There is literally inspiration everywhere and advice and guides and design rules.

You can know everything you should do and shouldn't do, and yet somehow your space still isn't working.

I meet clients who tell me they definitely need an extension but they have no idea how it will work for them, what impact it will have on the rest of the house, what function it will serve, who wjll use it and at what times, how the space will flow..

They feel cramped and frustrated and the easiest thing is to add more space (but is it the solution?)

Unless you figure out the problem you are trying to solve and the life that is at the end of this change you end up going around in circles.
Thinking its a paint colour or a furniture or a storage problem. Fixing that problem and still not living the life you want.

My Optimised Space Framework is designed to tackle the deeper challenges with your space first. Before design comes analysis and diagnosis.

Don't jump into fixing the wrong problem because you will just waste time, energy and money.
Step back and look at the whole space and how its working before you "fix" one room.

Believe me i get it, we bought our house with 3 kids under 3 and on only one income!!

So i know what it's like. The years of making do, the putting up with and the desire for better comfort, quality and function.

But while it's tempting, it's so important to take time to really look at your space and how it's working, before you invest in new furniture.

Ask yourself this question:

"How do I actually want to live in this space?"

And give it proper time to think it through.

That's why every project I work on starts with a Space Strategy Session.

Because once you're clear on the bigger picture, every decision afterwards becomes easier.

If you're planning a renovation, redesign or you're simply tired of second-guessing every decision...

When we're buying, building or renovating we spend months asking questions like:
* What's our budget?
* How many bedrooms do we want?
* Is there enough storage?
* Can we extend it?
* What style of kitchen do we want?

All important questions to ask, but not the place to start.

Before you get into specifics you need to answer this more important question:
How do I want to live?

After years of working with homeowners I've realised it's not actually the sofa, the paint colour or the old fashioned kitchen that are the problem.

It's that they designed before they figured out how they wanted their home to support how they live.

Ask yourself: "If your home worked perfectly for the life you'd love to live, how would it be set up?"

If you're planning to buy, build or renovate, August is the perfect time to step back and answer the questions that will shape every decision that follows

My Space Strategy Session isn't about choosing colours or furniture. It's about helping you define how you want to live, so your home can be designed to support that life from the very beginning.

If you're ready to start with the right questions, book your August Space Strategy Session via the link in my bio or DM me PLAN and I'll send you details.

There was one more comment in the last week, that also really stuck with me:
"The new space made having a difficult conversation easier..." This is everything to ne because improving spaces isn't about making them "look pretty", it's about improving the lives of the people that use them.

These comments weren't formal testimonials or reviews but emails and comments from clients as we work together.

Sometimes improving space and designing homes or businesses to work better, can feel kinda abstract!
It's worth pulling it back to the tangible process that gets us there.

The many steps on the way, from meeting someone, listening to what they need, to assessing the space, looking at it through the lens of my Optimised Space Framework, to ideas and concepts to concrete plans and implementation.

It's a journey, and these comments from clients mean a lot as we move forward. Communication is key at every stage.

If I can help you improve the space you are working/living in, DM me "PLAN" and I'll send you details.

I walked into a furniture shop last weekend and within minutes remembered why I never send my clients there (at the start!)

The shop wasn't the problem, or the style of furniture or the selection they had.

I was trying to make decisions without a clear direction (and I should have known better🤯)

I've seen it happen time and time again. You spend months researching, saving inspiration and second-guessing every purchase because nobody has helped you step back and ask...

"How do I actually want to live in this space?"

That's why every one of my projects starts with a Space Strategy Session.

Once you're clear on the bigger picture, every decision afterwards is easier.

If you're planning a renovation, redesign or you're simply tired of not knowing where to start...

Now I need to sit down and do the same for myself!!
