The 2026 Ireland Gateway To Europe trade mission brought together leaders from across industry and international organisations in Washington, Delaware and Philadelphia, creating conversations and relationships that are continuing beyond the programme itself.

Looking back on the opening day of the trip, FKM CEO Matt Mohan and IGTE co-founder Adie McGennis joined Shane Coleman on The Hard Shoulder to discuss the vision behind IGTE, what participants gain from the experience, and how the programme has evolved over the past 14 years.

Matt also spoke about the work FKM delivers within the built environment sector and the importance of building lasting international relationships through initiatives like this.

Thank you to our partners Aer Lingus, FROSCH Ireland, The Currency, Newstalk, Jess Kelly, World Trade Center Dublin, Washington DC Delaware for their continued support throughout this year’s programme.

International Women’s Day | Mimosa Brunch

International Women’s Day gives businesses a moment to pause and recognise the women within their teams. This week at FKM, that meant taking time out for a team brunch and acknowledging the contribution of the women who drive our business forward.

The conversation, though, should always extend further than one day a year.

Women represent roughly 12% of the construction workforce in Ireland. At FKM, that figure stands at 39%, with many in leadership roles across operations, finance, design and communications, meaning the people shaping our projects and signing off on decisions reflect a broader mix of experience than the industry average.

The women across the business are not highlighted for a day and forgotten. They are part of the leadership, the delivery teams and the culture that sustains our company throughout the year.

Today and everyday, we are grateful for the expertise, judgement and commitment the women in our team bring to FKM, and for the role they continue to play in strengthening the industry as a whole.

So yes, they deserved a mimosa!

Planning a fitout is rarely a small decision. For most organisations, it sits alongside wider conversations about growth, cost control and how teams are expected to work over the coming years.
In Ireland, these decisions often come with additional layers. Many workplaces are housed in older buildings, city centre locations can limit access and programme flexibility, and businesses frequently need to remain operational while work is carried out. These factors shape how a fit-out must be approached from the outset.

Timing and coordination are key. Delays to early decisions can quickly impact programme and cost, particularly where building services upgrades or compliance requirements are involved. According to industry data, late stage changes can add up to 20 percent to overall project costs once work is underway.

Sustainability is another growing consideration. With rising energy costs and Ireland’s climate targets, fitouts are increasingly expected to improve efficiency and extend the life of existing spaces. Retaining usable materials, upgrading services and designing for flexibility can deliver long term value, but only when planned early.

For organisations planning a fitout, the most successful projects tend to be those where these factors are considered together. Understanding the building, the people using it and the realities of delivery helps avoid unnecessary disruption and supports better outcomes.

This is the level of thinking FKM brings to every fitout project.

« FKM Fit Out | 2025 Wrapped

From global headquarters to high-performance retrofits, 2025 was a year defined by collaboration, craft, and care.

We delivered complex projects, celebrated 80 years of working magic, launched a new website, supported causes close to our hearts, and saw our work shared and acknowledged across the industry.

None of it happens in isolation. Thank you to the partners we collaborated with, the clients who trusted us with their spaces, and the people behind the scenes who make it all possible.

Looking ahead to 2026, we wish our clients, collaborators, and colleagues every success for the year to come.
Best wishes as we continue working magic together ✨

Our CEO, Matt Mohan, joined on Newstalk’s Down to Business for The Executive Chair, where he spoke in detail about his journey to FKM, the principles that guide us, and the work we deliver for our clients.

Matt reflected on the depth of experience that shapes our projects and the disciplined approach he has brought to the company throughout his time as CEO. Our longevity comes from clear thinking and steady decision making, qualities that have supported FKM through the changing markets of the last 80 years.

The conversation also explored the growing importance of Asset Repositioning, a space where our expertise are well established and where we continue to lead as organisations renew existing buildings for stronger performance and sustainability.

Matt outlined how the need for technical upgrade and retrofit is accelerating, and how this work has become a central part of what we do.
