Polly & Tony are professional photographers based in County Kerry. Each working to produce their own photographic art, they collectively sell their work of Kerry images and beyond as Canvas Prints, Framed Prints, Mounted Prints, Greetings Cards, Postcards and Tide Clocks. They also do portrait work, picture restoration, event shooting, wedding photography, photography courses and take commissions for business / club related photography and web use.

Captured this morning in a usually inaccessible crevice/ cavelet on the Ladies beach, Ballybunion. There are a few sea Anemones to see, mostly this rich orange red. Aren’t they amazing? I managed to capture this one with a miniature view of Ballybunion beach and the sea reflected in the anemone’s moist, side.
DESCRIPTION:
This invertebrate has a base in the form of a sucker and a short, wide body. It has six crowns with almost 200 tentacles and may be red or green. When it is out of the water, it retracts its tentacles and closes them inside its body, thus reminding us of a tomato.
Its maximum size is 7.5 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height.
BIOLOGY:
The red sea anemone is an animal of solitary behaviour. It has small blue fringe sacks, which sting and are used to drive away members of the same species when they get too close. During the day it is almost always contracted in the form of a sphere, opening when night falls.
It feeds of small figh, crustaceans and molluscs and is therefore carnivorous.
It has oviparous reproduction. It may launch the ovules and s***m in the water or the larvae might develop inside the mother, who finally drives the young out of her mouth.
HABITAT:
This animal is frequent on all rocky coasts from the tidal limit to 2 m in depth.
DISTRIBUTION:
It is found around the Mediterranean sea and the North Atlantic.
CURIOSITIES:
It is an animal highly resistant to drying thanks to the water it is able to retain inside when it closes.

A brief look in the Grand Cave this morning, Ballybunion Beach. Not recommended to anyone without vast experience. The tide can and has, rapidly take you beyond rescue.

Something different for you. Ballybunion beach this morning, caressed by fog. My favourite is the one I captured of Tony strolling along the Mens’ Strand. A rare sight soon as we are moving to Spain.

Ballybunion’s Black Rocks. We caught the last of the sun’s rays before the rain came in. We just got that beautiful contrast between the two lights.The Black Rocks are used for catching winkles and it has some beautiful pools to swim in.
