***SEVERE WEATHER WARNING***. (COASTAL MUNSTER)
TIMELINE: TODAY: 1600HRS TO SATURDAY 0600HRS
AREA: STH LEINSTER, CONNACHT
HIGH RISK (SEVERE): COASTAL COUNTIES MUNSTER
We do not post severe weather warnings frequently. Its is our highest warning advisory. This is our fourth severe weather warning in 6 years. This follows on from our initial advisory 48 hours ago. Potential for severe and damaging violent storm force gusts anywhere south of a line from County Clare to Youghal in County Cork. Gusts in excess of 130kmh/150kmh cannot be ruled out. Our advise is essential travel only tonight in coastal counties of Munster. Expect downed power lines, trees and debris on road networks throughout the greater west Munster region. Old or damaged outbuilding and structural damage is likely in SW Munster.
Both Waterford and Tipperary were added to the Orange warning at 0400hrs this morning and County Galway was added to Orange at 1100hrs.
Not nearly as severe further north in Leinster and North Connacht ( ) gusts of 85kmh to 115kmh with higher gusts along the south Wexford coast and over uplands in Connacht and Leinster.
If you know of any elderly or vulnerable people in your locality in coastal Munster whom may not be up to date on Hannah please call them or better again call into them before lunchtime and make them aware of a potentially damaging storm. Please ensure farm animals and pets are given adequate shelter. They do not like storms either.
Please do not approach coastal piers, headlands and piers. You will be putting your life and those whom may have to try and save you at risk.
We expect flight disruption this evening and tonight in Shannon, Cork and Kerry and Waterford. Both Knock and Dublin should be fine with the peak winds arriving overnight leading to little disruption.
***A note of caution to those visiting or living on peninsulas in County Kerry and County Cork you should take this as the highest level warning possible and as such this could pose a direct threat to life and property. We would gladly take criticism if we have over estimated Hannah from those visiting or living their if the potential threat does not live up to a advisory***
Anywhere directly E or NE of the Reeks may well be sheltered from the worst of the storm?
Keep up to date this morning with Met Eireann and other trustworthy meteo sources. We will update as required throughout the day.
