Some good safety tips around the house from Electric Ireland

Make sure all cords to your appliances (e.g. iron, kettle) are kept well out of the reach of children.

Never let your child bring any type of electrical appliance (games consoles, radios, CD players) into the bathroom.

Teach your child not to touch electrical appliances with wet hands

Never leave electric cords lying around where children are walking or playing.

The following information may be of interest:

The CER has published the decision paper on the Scope of Restricted Electrical Works (CER/13/147). This will mean that only a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) can complete electrical work in domestic premises, with the exception of Minor Works. These regulations shall be enacted on 1st October 2013 through the Statutory Instrument Electricity Regulation Act 1999 (Restricted Electrical Works) Regulations 2013.
