Guess who’s back?!
אז נכון עבר זמן לא מבוטל מאז הפעם האחרונה שהתראינו, אבל לנו לפחות היה ברור שנחזור. תל אביב, העיר האהובה עלינו, השתנתה וממשיכה להשתנות – אין כמעט רחוב ללא עבודות בכביש, צעירים רבים עזבו את העיר, והסגירה הממושכת של מוסדות התרבות, הבילוי והפנאי השפיעו ללא ספק על מרקם החיים בה. השנה האחרונה, שהייתה מאתגרת לכולנו – רווקים ורווקות, זוגות בלי, זוגות עם, קשישים, ילדים – הייתה גם הזדמנות מצויינת עבורנו לחשבון נפש וחישוב מסלול. אז החלטנו שאנחנו חוזרים, ובגדול. דרך עיניהם של זוגות תל אביביים, אנחנו רוצים להמשיך ולספר את סיפורה של עיר יוצאת דופן ולספק לכם, הקוראים, הצצה לחייהם של אחרים.

Yes, we know, it has been a while; but we knew that this was not the end for us. Tel Aviv, our favorite city, has changed and continues to change – road construction now graces most of the city's streets, many young residents have left town, and the longstanding cultural and recreational shut down we have endured this past year have undoubtedly affected our way of living. The past year has challenged us all – singles, couples with children, those without, the elderly, children… everyone. But for many it was also an excellent opportunity to reflect and recalculate. So we decided to return to your news feed, and with a bang. Through the eyes of Tel-Avivian couples, we want to continue to tell the tale of this extraordinary city, and to give you, our readers, a glimpse into the life of others.

One of the things, which make Tel Aviv the unique city that it is, is undoubtedly its proximity to the sea. Even if you're not huge fans of the genre, yes, getting sand in your underwear is not particularly pleasant, it's hard to stay indifferent to its presence. The Tel Avivian sea is the backdrop for Ariella and Noam's life together in the city, from their acquaintance at a friend's beach party to their apartment on one of the streets leading to it. Their shared love of nature, which inspires their involvement with several environmental and sustainability projects throughout town, has brought them together under the warm Mediterranean sun. Ariella, who lived in the USA at the time, participated in a students' exchange program at Tel Aviv University, where Noam was studying for his Bachelor's as well. By pure chance, they met at that oh-so-fateful beach party – and the rest is history. After some back and forth between Israel and the USA (and a backpacking trip they took together in South America), Ariella officially made Aliyah and their life together began. When she's not busy with her day job at a start-up company, Ariella is an accomplished "zero-waste" painter and artist, with a particular fondness for vivid colors and animal-inspired motifs. Noam manages a team of algorithm specialists at a high-tech company and is active in Tel Aviv's environmental scene, where he oversees the neighborhood's compost-making efforts. Together they are the proud owners of Panda the cat (you can easily guess which color his fur is) and are currently planning their much-anticipated nuptials after nearly 10 years of dating; A Tel-Avivian beach wedding perhaps?

אחד הדברים שהופכים את תל אביב לעיר שהיא הוא ללא ספק הים. גם אם אתם לא חובבי ים מושבעים, כי חול בתחתונים זה אולי פחות נעים, קשה להתכחש לנוכחות שלו. אותו ים תל אביבי מלווה את אריאלה ונועם מרגע היכרותם במסיבה של חבר ועד למגורים המשותפים באחד הרחובות המובילים אליו. האהבה המשותפת של השניים לטבע, אהבה אמיתית שמתבטאת גם במעורבות של שניהם בפרוייקטים של קיימות ואיכות סביבה, חיברה ביניהם כבר מהרגע הראשון, כשברקע אותו ים תיכון משגע. אריאלה, שגרה אז בארה"ב, השתתפה בתכנית לחילופי סטודנטים באוניברסיטת תל אביב, היכן שנועם למד לתואר ראשון כעתודאי. ממש במקרה הם מצאו את עצמם באותה מסיבה גורלית בים – והיתר היסטוריה. לאחר תקופה לא קצרה של הלוך וחזור בין ישראל וארה"ב (עם גיחה משותפת של כמה חודשים לדרום אמריקה) אריאלה עלתה רשמית ארצה וחייהם המשותפים התחילו. כשהיא לא עובדת בעבודה "הרגילה" שלה בחברת סטארט-אפ, אריאלה היא ציירת ויוצרת מוכשרת, הדוגלת באומנות ברת-קיימא, ועם חיבה לצבעים עזים ומוטיבים מעולם החי. נועם מנהל צוות של אלגוריתמיקאים בחברת היי-טק ובמקביל פעיל בקהילת שוחרי הסביבה התל אביבית ומנהל בין היתר את הקומפוסטר (מתקן לייצור קומפוסט – דשן) השכונתי. הם מגדלים ביחד חתול שובב בשם פנדה (אתם יכולים לנחש בקלות מה צבע הפרווה שלו) ומתכננים חתונה בקרוב אחרי כ-10 שנות זוגיות. ואם כבר חתונה אז למה לא באחד מחופי תל אביב?

One sunlit Saturday we went for a walk about town with the camera. We discovered a diverse crowd hanging around in the cafes, restaurants, flowering boulevards and public gardens. Tel Aviv is not reserved only for those who live there, and some of the people we've met are from out of town. Yet they come to Tel Aviv on their days off to see and be seen, to enjoy the atmosphere the city has to offer. We would like to thank all of the couples that agreed to have their picture taken, without planning or preparations. The results are before you! Wishing one and all a happy holiday!

שבת שמשמית אחת יצאנו להסתובב ברחובות תל אביב עם המצלמה. גילינו ערב רב של אנשים בבתי הקפה, המסעדות, השדרות המוריקות והגינות הציבוריות. תל אביב היא לא רק עבור התל אביבים, וחלק מהאנשים איתם שוחחנו הם בכלל לא מהעיר אבל מגיעים אליה כדי לראות ולהראות, לספוג קצת אווירה וצבע. אנו מודים לכל הזוגות שהסכימו להצטלם בלי הכנה ובלי גינונים. התוצאות לפניכםן! ננצל הזדמנות זו כדי לאחל לכולכםן חג אביב שמח ונעים!

Eyar and Nicolas live and move from a shared belief in the power of motion to motivate the body as well as the soul. What started as a chance encounter at the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater, while Eyar was working there as an usher and Nicolas was performing, developed over time into a journey towards a common way of living. When they met about a year later, entirely by chance, while riding their bikes on the streets of Tel Aviv, they realized that there’s definitely room for deepening their acquaintance. By the way, Eyar and Nicolas continue riding their bikes religiously reaching all areas of Tel Aviv from their apartment of the last 2.5 years in the southern Shapira neighbourhood. The dynamics between Eyar and Nicolas reflects to an extent the neighbourhood where they chose to live: renewable, eclectic, fundamental. The energy is pleasant and at the same time different, interesting. The choice of movement as a way of life corresponds with the motion we witness in recent years in neighbourhoods like Shapira, which has been drawing a young, creative crowd these past several years. The apartment where they live is where Eyar’s studio is as well. Nicolas trains using a unique method, combining different schools and approaches, and prefers training outdoors. And yet, once a week, they meet at the apartment to train together following Nicolas’ approach. The apartment is not big, and the studio takes up a large part of the space. But that doesn’t bother anyone. As a matter of fact, Eyar says that her favourite sounds is when Nicolas starts preparing dinner in the kitchen, while she is in the studio, teaching.

אייר וניקולאס חיים וזזים מתוך אמונה משותפת בכוח של תנועה להניע את הגוף כמו גם את הנפש. מה שהתחיל כהיכרות מקרית במרכז סוזן דלל, בזמן שאייר עבדה כסדרנית במרכז וניקולאס הופיע, התפתח לאורך זמן למסע בדרך חיים משותפת. כאשר הם נפגשו שוב כשנה לאחר מכן, לגמרי במקרה, בזמן רכיבה על אופניים ברחובות תל אביב, הבינו שיש מקום להעמיק את ההיכרות ביניהם. הרכיבה על האופניים, אגב, ממשיכה ללוות את השניים, שרוכבים לכל מקום בעיר מדירתם בשנתיים וחצי האחרונות בשכונת שפירא הדרומית. הדינאמיקה בין אייר לניקולאס משקפת במידה מסויימת את השכונה שהם בחרו לגור בה: מתחדשת, אקלקטית, יסודית. האנרגיה נעימה ובאותו הזמן שונה, מעניינת. הבחירה בתנועה כאורח חיים מתכתבת היטב עם התנועה בשכונות כמו שכונת שפירא, שמושכת קהל צעיר ויצירתי בשנים האחרונות. הדירה בה הם גרים משמשת גם כסטודיו לפילאטיס של אייר. ניקולאס מאמן בשיטה ייחודית, המשלבת גישות שונות, ומעדיף להתאמן מחוץ לבית או לסטודיו, במרחבים הפתוחים. ובכל זאת, אחת לשבוע, הם נפגשים לאימון משותף בדירתם בשיטתו של ניקולאס. הדירה אינה גדולה, והסטודיו תופס חלק משמעותי מהמרחב. אבל אין בכך משום גורם מפריע, להיפך. אייר מספרת שהצליל שהיא הכי אוהבת זה כשניקולאס מתחיל להכין ארוחת ערב בזמן שהיא בסלון, בסטודיו, מלמדת.

Friendship comes in all shapes and sizes, and apparently species as well! Nugget and Nanshe met on the streets of Tel Aviv while taking a casual stroll with their owners- Patrick from Australia and Wendy from Germany. The 6 months old Nugget has opened up for Patrick a whole new world of acquaintances with different dogs and people on the street, at the dog park or the local neighborhood cafe. Patrick, in Israel with his wife, a diplomat from the Australian foreign services, said that: "Ever since we have Nugget, we've met more people than we have since our arrival in Israel three years ago." Considering the amount of dogs and their owners walking the streets of Tel Aviv, we are not one bit surprised!

חברות מגיעה בכל מני גדלים וגוונים, ומסתבר שגם זנים! נאגט וננשה הכירו ברחובות תל אביב כאשר טיילו עם בעליהן- פטריק מאוסטרליה ווונדי מגרמניה. נאגט בת החצי שנה פתחה עבור פטריק עולם חדש ומופלא של היכרויות ויצירת קשרים חדשים עם אנשים שונים ברחוב, בגינת הכלבים או סתם בבית הקפה השכונתי. פטריק שנמצא בארץ עם אישתו, דיפלומטית בשירות החוץ האוסטרלי, אמר ש"מאז שנאגט אצלנו הכרנו יותר אנשים מאשר בשלושת השנים האחרונות מאז שהגענו לישראל". בהתחשב בכמות הכלבים ובעליהם שמהלכת ברחובות תל אביב, אנחנו לא מופתעים בכלל!

Niv Schwartz, 29, Business Consultant & Yael (Yifeng) Zhou, 25, Journalist
Yael (Yifeng) and Niv’s story is about more than just your average "love conquers all" story; it’s about blending, harmonizing, two distinct cultures, the Chinese and Israeli cultures, and coming together to create their own unique language. Following a professional encounter at Tel Aviv University, they spent their first date at a restaurant with two Chinese tourists that Niv had saved from a scam that day, and since then, a little more than two years ago, they have been together. With Niv’s perfectly spoken Chinese and formal manner and Yael’s acquired Israeli ‘chutzpah’ they epitomize Tel Aviv’s melting pot mentality. When asked what they like most about living in Tel Aviv, they answered: “It’s those little things that start trending and all of a sudden can turn into a big deal.” The same can be said of their own personal story, a chance encounter that bloomed into a loving relationship.

What is the secret to a good cup of coffee?
High quality coffee beans, roasted and ground just right, the water temperature, and some will even say the actual serving cup. If you ask Marcelo and Georgia another necessary ingredient, and no less important, is love. The two came to Israel from São Paulo, Brazil, about a year and a half ago and shortly thereafter opened their excellent coffee shop, “Origem” (meaning “origin” in Portuguese), on Dizengoff street. What brings a couple operating a successful chain of coffee shops in Brazil to leave it all behind and travel some thousands of kilometers to the Middle East? Marcelo and Georgia’s formal answer would be that they came to Israel following their eldest daughter who had decided to make Aliyah and serves today in the IDF’s home-front command. In retrospect, although Brazil is their homeland, in Israel, in Tel Aviv, so they say, they feel the most at home.
