Exploring exposed brick and concrete facade for an upcoming institutional project on a tight urban site.

The decision to include cool colours was to retain a continuity between the inside and outside while adding pops of joy to the larger neutral natural palette.

The western facade has an angular shading protecting the classrooms from direct sunlight while the northern facade is more porous, with windows on multiple levels.

Creating a Fluid Shaded Community Space

The ST+5 housing typology is one of the most common ways of living in the city. As FSI changes, and the city opts for high-rises, the peri-urban context is where this is being explored.

With increasing parking requirements and a higher ground coverage, the question becomes of how to create safe community spaces here?

In this project, we chose to open out the common corridors to a fluid communal space that flows through the site, connected through a large passage at the podium level.

The vision is that these spaces become places to pause, play and gather. In an increasingly virtual world, the courtyard typology holds even more importance than ever before.

While the corridors look inward, the residential units look outward ensuring adequate light and ventilation .

UPCOMING | RESIDENTIAL MASTERPLAN

The row house typology is an incredible opportunity to question how living interacts with the street-scape. The threshold spillovers to the street, creating an active frontage.

Here, we were deeply inspired by and his work with terrace housing. A verandah on the upper floor breaks the visual continuity of the facade, creating an unimposing streetscape.

The common spaces are zoned into the front of the house while the private spaces are tucked behind.

The movable screens respond to the hot and humid climate of Chennai, allowing flexibility and privacy.

The masterplan creates a radial framework with the main buildings opening out to a central space that offers space for collaboration and break out.

A central courtyard with double glazed skylights creating a dynamic play of light and shadow with a vibrant central space.

Deep recessed windows with louvered vents enable cross ventilation.

The CPCL, IT and polytechnic college establishes a dynamic relationship with the outdoors. The spaces are organized around a central courtyard promoting natural ventilation and communal gathering.

The deep recesses windows reduce heat gain while the terraces create spillover spaces on different levels.
