People of Pangi are mainly Hindu while some follow Budhism. they are Bhoties with mongoliad fetures. Main tribe of Pangi is Pangwal and these tough peopole have the unique customs, traditions and institutions . These Pangwal and Bhots are robust and handsome and keep the culture alive in their folk songs music and tribal dances.When the valley is locked from all sides during winter aerial route is the only means to travel. Pangi valley is now connected by road from Chamba via Sach Pass 4415 meter in height from mean sea level and from Manali via Rohtang Pass 4116 meter Valley is almsot 1600 square km surrounded by mountans ranging between 5400 to 6500 meteres height. Pangi is thickly forested and among others have pine oak and deodar and low slopes are full of green grass pastures. pangi valley is sparersly populated and only 18000 people live in this valley. Almost everyone is connected with agriculture and live stock. Jukaru is major festival of pangi celeberated in Feburary.Music dance and localy brewed liquor Patar play significant role in Pangwals life.Pangi is trekkers paradise and many trekkers come here to walk from Pangi to Keylong in Lahaul Spiti and to Kishtwar in Jammur and kashmir. the best time to visti Pangi is between June to October.
