At 3000 ft is this beautiful tribal village called Gouda Goda in the forests of Odisha. I went recently travelling and exploring this region. I was beautiful amazed by the local earthen architecture at this earthern property called Chandoori Sai build by Leon. On speaking with him I understood the importance of people's participation and what local truly means. The space and architecture is breathing at Chandoori Sai with earth, bamboo and local arts and crafts that adorn the interiors. We were fortunate to stay at a beautiful cottage of my dear friend, Mr. Naushad Bhagwagar, fondly called as Nalcom by the locals there and without him this exploration wouldn't have been possible. Thank you Naushad :)
The girls at the property Rita, Mungi, Komala, Rukmini and a few more along with the beautiful couple, Akhila and Basha took great care of us. We enjoyed lovely meals, exchanging cultures, singing, dancing, cooking and having great conversations along with them and some more guests. We were truly immersed in the local life mainly due to its untouched space design, the warmth of the people and lap of nature. From getting dressed in a local sari, to enjoying tribal dance, to visiting village and understanding the lives of the people, trying pottery, understanding local farming at Brown valley coffee plantation to trying local market shopping at Pura Goda this experience was truly humbling and gratifying.
