Designing hallways presents an exciting opportunity to play with movement. Most spaces are designed for inhabiting and stillness, but hallway designs allow us to design for transcendental flow.

Some of the uniquely characterised hallways from our projects, varying in scale and intent, are highlighted above. These spaces create elements of interest through proportions, light and the way they connect the two adjoining spaces.

As a collective, our conduct is to cater to the minutest asks of every family member. That is not simply a difference in demands, but shifts in design languages. We have strategically used hallways as neutralising zones to maintain a cohesive grammar across the master plan!

From above, the true scale of a home reveals itself.

Spanning 17,800 square feet, this Delhi residence was designed for a family of collectors, a brief that shaped everything from room proportions to gallery-like display walls, built to hold a lifetime of curated pieces.

Seen from the sky, the estate's scale and symmetry come into full view, holding its own story. This home is as much an archive as it is a residence.

When designing for intimacy within an estate sprawling over 17,000 sq. ft., we prioritised the family’s smallest needs above all other design considerations.

Oaklane Villa, nestled in the quietude of Chhattarpur, New Delhi, houses a multigenerational family and offers a sanctuary for their ever-evolving needs. It reimagines the sensibilities of a chateaux, contextualising them within the vocabulary of contemporary India. This process demanded that we cohesively weave together each family member’s individual preferences to evolve a unique design language tailored to their needs.

As a practice, we at AKDG favour timelessness over transient trends. Oaklane Villa, thus, stands as a testament to this pursuit of the timeless.

Every home needs a thread that ties its rooms together. In this Jamnagar residence, it's this hallway.

A wood-battened ceiling runs the length of the space, warm and textured against soft ivory walls, a nod to the countryside theme the family envisioned for their home. Alabaster pendant lights hang at intervals, casting a gentle glow across a geometric marble floor that leads the eye toward a spiral staircase in the distance. Arched windows let daylight spill in from one side.

More than a passage, this hallway is the quiet connector, the space every room in the home eventually leads back to.

A long, still pool that leads the eye straight to the pavilion beyond, this poolside retreat in Chhatarpur is outdoor living designed for every season.

The stone-clad pool house, with its arched glass doors and slate roof, sits framed by autumn foliage on one side and bare winter branches on the other, a reminder that a well-designed outdoor space doesn't need summer to feel complete. Loungers and casual seating spill out from the pavilion's arches, blurring the line between indoors and out.

The family wanted a space where the family could unwind throughout the year, not just in the warmer months, so the pavilion was designed to feel just as inviting on a cool morning as it does on a summer afternoon.

A home doesn't need a compass when it already knows its centre, like this residence in Karnal.

A radial marble medallion draws the eye inward, while a cascading chandelier spirals down through the double-height void, echoing the sweep of the staircase beside it. Crescent-shaped seating curves around a sculptural coffee table, mirroring the room's circular geometry in every direction.

The family came to us with a simple brief, a home in white and light tones, one that felt open and unburdened. Through many conversations with the family, that vision shaped every material choice here: soft marble, cream upholstery, warm gold accents, nothing louder than it needed to be.

This space is quite literally the Brahmasthan, or the Fortress of Lord Brahma, and it shows, in every curve.

There's a quiet kind of magic in a room bathed entirely in daylight, this courtyard is one of this kind.

A glass-roofed skylight draws daylight down through two levels of walls in soft sage and stone, while a weathered brass chandelier hangs gently at the centre, with a relaxed seating arrangement in powder blue, turn the space into an everyday retreat.

For a family who wanted a home that didn't just open outward, but inward too, a space where every family member, regardless of the hour, would find themselves passing through, pausing, and staying a little longer. This courtyard became that space: a room with no fixed purpose, and therefore, endless ones.

Marble that moves like water. Light that falls like it was designed to.

This master en-suite in Hyderabad layers bookmatched marble panelling, a stone pendant chandelier, and a herringbone stone floor into one seamless composition. A soft brass vanity with butterfly-motif hardware sits beneath a deep-veined stone counter, framed by layered mirrors and quiet artwork.

Because in a home like this, even the quietest room gets the loudest attention to detail.
