What I really enjoy about High Performance Building workshops is seeing people question the answers rather than simply take them for granted.

At ASSURE in Mysuru, we took daylighting and building envelope strategies beyond presentations and into hands-on exercises — testing glazing options, working through calculations, and exploring daylight, glare, visual comfort and heat transfer.

With a strong mix of engineers and architects in the room, the discussions became even more interesting.
Different perspectives. Different assumptions. Better questions.

And that, for me, is where the real learning happens.

Most daylight simulations happen too late.
By the time they're run, many of the decisions that matter most have already been made.
Daylight simulations shouldn't just tell us whether a building performs.

They should help us decide how it performs.

When cities flood after just a few hours of rain, the problem isn't only the clouds above us—it's the decisions we've made on the ground.

Urban flooding is no longer an exception. It has become a predictable outcome of disappearing lakes, encroached natural drains, clogged stormwater networks, excessive concretisation, and development that ignores how water naturally moves through a city.
Every flooded road, stranded vehicle, damaged home, and disrupted life is a reminder that resilience cannot be an afterthought.

As architects, planners, engineers, policymakers, and citizens, we need to stop treating water as a problem to be drained away and start designing cities that can absorb, store, and manage it.
The next monsoon is inevitable. Urban flooding doesn't have to be.

Let's build cities that work with nature, not against it.
