A traveler at heart searching for the small beautiful things in live, as my grandfather always told me "Many small things make the big things". I grew up in Keflavík ( in Iceland)
as a fisherman's daughter. In my childhood, we used to make a house in the lava field behind the house. We didn´t have so much household, so we made it from from broken plates, stones and stuff from the beach. When I moved to the capital city, my mother started working for Glit, a company that was specialised in ceramic products. I loved going to work with her and sometimes I was allowed to make my own ceramic art. Soon I started going to art classes after school, it was one of my best moments. My mother still has all the artwork placed proudly on her wall from me and my siblings. When I was 13, my family went through hard times, as my mother lost her job. I have to say, even though I did't realise it then, it inspired me through my life course. My mother decided to sell angels to survive her unemployment days. She made them out of cast, and then we would spend the winter nights colouring angels. When me and my sister started to complain, she always said this one phrase, that my grandmother used to say to her when she was little... "Do you know how the jewish women survived the war.... they knew how to make beautiful things with their hands", from that we kept going making those little angels with our hands and we got our daily food of cabbage or potatoes in every meal. At that time I was also in my teen phase, with the "do not enter" note on the door. I spent hours listening to Leonard Cohen records and drawing the faces of the 90's supermodels and studying face profiles from a book I found of females from the 60's, I was amazed by their beauty. It was not until I was 23, when I decided to move to Italy that I finally was able to sooth my creative magnet. I registered to industrial design at the University of Rome. I couldn't speak one word in Italian, so the hardest part was actually understanding the teachers. Therefor, for one year I sat on the front row, with my glasses and a tape-recorder. After school I went straight home, where I translated every word they had said. Slowly slowly, I was up to standards and I just bloomed. For the first time in life I was an "A" student, but I also understood... Industrial is not made for me.... I have to create things from the material itself and go through the process of having the idea in my brain, where it spins around like a hurricane ,until it's in a material form. From the path through roman university and love relations, I got to know many of my creative friends, who all had their different visions in life. We started small and created a bar in Trastevere called 3-2-1. There we had Cult Cinema nights and Dj-set with cocktails on the weekends. Unfortunately, 3-2-1 had only 1 year of the good life, as Rome can be hard for laws. It just made our dreams bigger and we became the Rashomon-Crew. Together we created a spot in Rome where Visioners like us could come together, away from all expectations and social rules to exploit our minds through being free, to do what we want to do, be loaded and have a good time. Every weekend was filled with gadgets, themes, music, dance and confetti that was able then to carry all of us in joy through the next weeks projects or obligations. I spent 10 years in Rome and by then I felt the need to move on to the next chapter in life. I moved back to Iceland, got well married and opened a fabric store, called Handalína with my sister and mother. When the famous Eyjafjallajökull erupted and shook Europe, we were there with our hammers and saws creating our own little spot in the world, where people could come and find true treasures to realise the creations in their mind. We had our wonderful adventure for 3 years, when we took the decision to follow new dreams. I went back to the university to study, "how to become a guide in Iceland" and moved to Paris to live with my lovely husband. My great Mother-in-law inspired me in many things. Her apartment is like many homes in Paris with these so called Ateliers. For years and years, I dreamt I was an Artist and live life like Picasso and co. Now, I have made the decision to follow that dream 'till my next dream comes toward my path in life. Today, I am Oddlaug/Otto the artist in Montmartre and I am F***g & Freyja.
