Terraforma Exo is a new cultural manifestation produced by Threes Productions, whose first edition will take place on June 15th and 16th in Milan’s Parco Sempione. Conceived as a curatorial intervention expanding beyond enclosed venues to explo

re new geographies, Terraforma Exo confronts the challenges of navigating contemporary cultural landscapes by facilitating moments of deep introspection and critical thinking. The curatorial program will encompass live performances, installations, sound walks, and panel discussions featuring leading thinkers, musicians, and artists who operate within the spectrum of sound and ecology. A significant focus will be given to the ecological dimension of sound as an element capable of creatively transforming and interpreting space, opening up new ways of coexistence.

New York is the opening stop of Terraforma EXO 2026. For the first time in the US, Terraforma EXO unfolds across two days of performances, listening, film, and conversation, in collaboration with MoMA PS1

On July 24, Warm Up starts with a special Wackie’s Music showcase featuring Lloyd “Bullwackie” Barnes, , Claudette “Lovejoy” Brown, and Wayne Jarrett, alongside sets by Carlos Souffront, TELESONIQ, and DJ Richard.

On July 25, Bullwackie in New York (1985) returns to the big screen at Anthology Film Archives, followed by a conversation between Bullwackie, Mark Ernestus, Lovejoy Brown, Wayne Jarrett, and Christopher Clarke
This moment is co-curated as part of the TIMES cooperation project.

The weekend concludes with a DJ set by Arthur Rieger (DJ, artist, senior buyer at Hard Wax) at Slam Jam
A two-day programme exploring the living legacy of Wackies and the resonances between reggae, dub, electronic music and collective cultural memory.

See you in New York.
Links for both days are in the bio.

In 2026, Terraforma EXO kicks off in New York on July 24, joining MoMA PS1 for Warm Up’s opening weekend: a Wackies showcase bringing together Bronx label founder Lloyd “Bullwackie” Barnes and Basic Channel co-founder Mark Ernestus, joined by vocalists Claudette “Lovejoy” Brown and Wayne Jarrett.

Wackies is an independent record label founded in the Bronx in 1976 by Kingston-born Lloyd “Bullwackie” Barnes. Active through the era of rock and disco in New York, the label carved out a distinctive, idiosyncratic take on dub and reggae, marked by lo-fi, textural productions that became its signature.
A protégé of Prince Buster and a former engineer at Duke Reid’s Treasure Isle label, Barnes’ touch runs across dozens of records — from Wayne Jarrett and Sugar Minott to Prince Douglas, Horace Andy, Love Joys, and producer Lee “Scratch” Perry. Pressed in small editions of 500–1000 through the mid-1980s, these records nonetheless left a lasting mark on artists like Massive Attack and Rhythm & Sound — with Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald later reviving the catalogue through Basic Channel.

Fifty years on, Wackies’ sound returns to where it started — as part of a season marking the joint anniversary of the label and MoMA PS1.

This October, Terraforma EXO Palermo brings the Abdullah Miniawy Trio to Villa Tasca, with a project suspended between urban tension and spiritual depth, weaving jazz and Middle Eastern soundscapes together.

Egyptian poet, singer, composer and actor, Miniawy is one of the defining voices to emerge from the Arab Spring generation, known for fusing politically charged Arabic lyricism with experimental sound. He won the Victoires du Jazz with Le Cri du Caire, and has built a long dialogue with jazz through his collaboration with trumpeter Erik Truffaz — who also features on Peacock Dreams أَحْلَامُ الطَّاوُوسِ, one of Miniawy's most personal records.

Boomkat called it "unquestionably one of the year's most creative and incisive records," built on brass arrangements that gird his "stirringly poetic chants with sublime Nymanesque brass harmonies."

The setting is Villa Tasca: a 16th-century villa on eight hectares of citrus groves and centuries-old trees, on the road connecting Palermo to Monreale. Its garden, reshaped in the 1800s into one of Sicily's finest examples of Romantic landscape design, winds through palms, araucarias and subtropical species gathered from five continents, past hidden follies and a small lake, in a space that has quietly hosted composers, queens and poets for two hundred years.

We’re happy to announce that Terraforma EXO returns to Villa Tasca (Villa Tasca) in Palermo this October with a special performance by Abdullah Miniawy Trio (Abdullah Miniawy)

Miniawy is an Egyptian artist, poet, and composer known for his politically charged lyrics and experimental sound. At Terraforma EXO, he presents a trio project with trombonists Jules Regard and Jules Boittin, moving between jazz, Middle Eastern soundscapes, and a deeply performative spirit, balancing urban tension with spiritual depth.

Villa Tasca, with its 8-hectare park stretching along the road from Palermo to Monreale, citrus groves, centuries-old trees, and a 16th-century villa shaped by 19th-century Sicilian Romanticism, provides the perfect setting for Peacock Dreams, an album at the intersection of electronic and baroque sound.

Palermo marks the second chapter of TERRAFORMA EXO 2026, our international platform exploring sound as a tool for artistic, ecological, and collective research—following the New York chapter with MoMA PS1 and preceding the Milan chapter with Fondation Cartier.

We are thrilled to announce that this summer Terraforma EXO lands in New York for the first time.
We’re partnering with MoMA PS1’s iconic outdoor music series, Warm Up, for two special evenings — July 24 & 25 — featuring talks, film screenings, and the sounds and spirit of our festival.

Co-organized with MoMA PS1, the weekend centres on a landmark Wackie’s Music Showcase featuring Lloyd “Bullwackie” Barnes, founder of the legendary Bronx reggae label Wackies, alongside Mark Ernestus, founding member of Basic Channel, with vocalists Claudette “Lovejoy” Brown and Wayne Jarrett, for the opening of Warm Up 2026 on July 24. A long-standing presence within the Terraforma universe, Ernestus has performed several times at the festival, most recently in 2022 with Ndagga Rhythm Force. Previously, he played MoMA PS1’s Warm Up in 2019 and 2006 (as Rhythm & Sound).

Basic Channel began to reissue hard-to-find Wackies releases in 2002, as part of Ernestus’s work tracing the deep connections between dub, techno, and diasporic musical traditions. The showcase at MoMA PS1 brings the quarter-century dialogue between Bullwackie and Ernestus into sharp focus, weaving together New York City dub and reggae with the dub techno sound each helped define. The full weekend programme will be announced in the coming weeks.

Now in its 28th edition, Warm Up remains one of New York’s most important gathering points for experimental, electronic, and club music. This collaboration marks Terraforma EXO’s first activation in the United States, ahead of upcoming projects in Palermo this October and Milan this November.

From the first morning session in the Legnaia classroom to the final restitution in the Labyrinth of Villa Arconati: four days of field recordings, production sessions, collective listening that shaped four compositions to carry the sound of this place back into it.
This is what Terraforma Radical School is and this first edition, guided by Donato Dozzy, is where it begins.
Thank you to everyone who was part of it.

The first edition of Terraforma Radical School has come to an end and with it something we have been working on since the last edition of the festival and it finally took shape. The programme was born from a desire to explore a different dimension of our research: more intimate, but no less rigorous. A space built around deep listening, sound practice and the transmission of knowledge that can only emerge when people share the same place and the same time—when the exchange between them becomes part of the work itself.

Donato Dozzy was the first mentor we envisioned for this journey: someone we have worked alongside for years, and whose approach to sound felt inseparable from what we were trying to build. Having him at Villa Arconati for these four days meant more than we expected. We are grateful for what this first edition has revealed about the potential directions this research can take.

We would like to thank the 15 participants who fuelled the programme with enthusiasm and care, developing four beautiful soundscapes for the Labyrinth—each distinct and full of character. Finally, we would also like to thank Fondazione Augusto Rancilio for its collaboration, and Cotopaxi and Slam Jam for their invaluable support.
