I was having dinner at a restaurant in Cagayan de Oro when a young man approached me and asked, "Are you Architect Romolo Nati?"

Naturally, I said yes, but I had to ask how he knew me. It turns out he is studying Real Estate Management at the University of Asia and the Pacific in BGC and mentioned he is following me in my socials. But the story gets even better.

When I asked who his mentor was, he gave a name very dear to me: Mr. Harold Dacumus.

Harold worked with me at Italpinas for more than a decade and I can honestly say those early years were the most challenging, but they were also the most formative.

I learned an incredible amount from him. In many ways, Harold was my mentor, too.

Seeing Harold pass his wealth of experience and knowledge down to the next generation fills me with immense happiness.

This is exactly what the young generation of Filipinos needs to absorb from industry veterans. And if I may say so, this is precisely what this country which I love so deeply needs to instill in its youth.

Before I end my day, I just want to greet the city of Cagayan de Oro a Happy 76th Charter Day!

Looking at these old photos of Cagayan de Oro, it is hard not to be amazed.

Can you imagine that the bustling, dynamic city we know today once looked like this?

What started as a modest riverside community has grown into one of the most important economic centers in the Philippines and the second most progressive city in Mindanao. Today, CDOro is a hub for commerce, education, innovation, and opportunity attracting everyone from across the country.

I am proud to witness its continued transformation. And if the last 76 years are any indication, the city's best chapters are still ahead.

Thank you for proving that remarkable progress is possible.

I have lived here in the Philippines for many years and I have witnessed both the challenges and the extraordinary strengths of this country. Government officials come and go, headlines change, and public debates will always exist. Yet what continues to inspire me is the resilience, optimism, and determination of the Filipino people.

Time and again, Filipinos prove their ability to adapt and rebuild regardless of adversity. Whether facing economic uncertainty, natural disasters, or global disruptions, there is a remarkable spirit here that refuses to give up. That resilience is one of the country's greatest assets.

The Philippines is blessed not only with stunning natural beauty, but also with something even more valuable: a young, talented, and hardworking population that continues to drive the nation forward.

Regardless of what anyone says, the Philippines is a country full of opportunities. While there is always room for improvement, there is also every reason to be optimistic about its future.

Happy Independence Day to the country I have called my home for the past 17+ years!
