Throwback to the opening day of the Romanian Exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale, a day filled with conversations, reunions, and excitement as months of work finally came to life.

Grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating this moment, our team, the jury, friends, and guests who made the day truly special.

The exhibition remains open until 23 November.

THE APARTMENT imagines the private space of a woman, an intimate setting where the H&M Studio A/W 2025 collection unfolds as both object and narrative. The interior reveals an exposed structure of concrete and aluminium, its unfinished surfaces forming an architecture of living.

Situated in Bucharest’s historic Primăverii neighborhood, the house that hosts Chariot Café carries its history in every surface, the building itself becoming part of the experience. A neutral color scheme flows seamlessly from the interior to the terrace, where concrete steps and discreet metal furniture form an urban piazza-like setting. Minimal, custom-made furnishings, warm lighting, and thoughtful spatial organization foster both quiet reflection and social interaction.

Chariot Café occupies a nearly century-old house, its design balancing respect for the building’s eclectic heritage with a restrained, contemporary approach. Original architectural details remain in focus, framed by clean lines and a neutral palette of concrete, limestone, microcement, and walnut. The café unfolds in two distinct rooms: a bar area with simple, solid forms and a library lined in walnut for a quieter, more enclosed atmosphere. Stainless steel accents add a subtle contrast, while lighting is warm and understated.

The terrace at Chariot Café introduces a subtle urban calm to the courtyard of a historic house. Defined by exposed concrete steps and discreet steel furniture, the design balances minimal intervention with strong and radical gestures.
A functional reinterpretation of a public square, the space invites both quiet conversation and casual gathering.

Romanian Participation at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia
HS01 chair is a collectible design piece and part of the Human Scale project hosted in the New Gallery of the Romanian Institute for Culture and Humanistic Research. Made from stainless steel, its construction emphasizes transparency, precision, and structural clarity. The material’s cold lucidity becomes a vessel for critique: a surface that rejects ornament yet amplifies presence. Within this constructed sterility, the chair calls attention to tactility and the act of inhabitation. More than a functional object, it becomes a spatial extension of the exhibition’s scenography, an architectural fragment projected into a post-technological future. Its angular geometry and exposed construction speak of utility, while its sculptural presence suggests permanence. Far from neutral, HS01 holds tension, between function and fiction, becoming a silent interlocutor in the ongoing reflection on space, value, and human presence.

Romanian Participation at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia
The Human Scale project aims to explore the vital, emotional, and symbolic functions of architecture through two distinct yet complementary approaches. The pavilion in the Giardini offers an immersive, scenographic experience, a performative space that is fictional, and affective, where the focus falls on the relationship between the human body and space.
In contrast, the venue hosted by the Romanian Cultural Institute presents part of the archive that grounded the project, emphasizing documentation and research. Through the central table and open library, this space becomes a setting for reflection and in-depth study.
Locations:
Romanian Pavilion, Giardini della Biennale
New Gallery of the Romanian Institute for Culture and Humanistic Research
(Cannaregio 2214, Venice)
On display untill November 23.
