Which one is better between apples grafted on loquats or one that is grafted on m9.
1. Apples on loquats
Short life span -The lifespan can be unpredictable due to potential graft incompatibility issues, which might result in a shorter lifespan for the tree. But its proven that it has shorter life span than apples on m9
The maturity rate is also uncertain and might not align well with typical apple growth patterns, leading to inconsistent fruiting times.
Quality can vary significantly due to the lack of common practice and potential incompatibility. There may be issues with nutrient uptake affecting the flavor, texture, and size of the apples.
The quantity of fruit is likely to be inconsistent, and the overall yield might be lower compared to traditional apple rootstocks due to potential physiological incompatibility
2. Apples Grafted on M9 Rootstock
M9 is a dwarfing rootstock widely used in apple cultivation. Trees grafted on M9 typically have a longer lifespan compared to those on loquats rootstocks, around 30 or more years.
M9 rootstock induces earlier fruiting, often within 2-3 years after planting, which is beneficial for quicker harvests.
Apples grown on M9 are known for their high-quality fruit production. This rootstock supports good flavor, size, and texture, making it a preferred choice for commercial and home orchards.
M9 is known for its high yield potential, providing abundant fruit per tree. The dwarfing nature allows for higher density planting, increasing overall fruit production per area.
For practical and reliable apple cultivation, M9 rootstock is generally preferred over loquat rootstock. M9 offers predictable and favorable outcomes in terms of lifespan, maturity, quality, and quantity of fruit. Grafting apples onto loquat is less conventional and likely to present more challenges and uncertainties.
