Digital recosturction of ancient Ephesus, showing how colorful this ancient city once was Ephesus was an ancient greek port city whose well-preserved ruins are in modern-day Türkiye. City was important trading center in Mediterranean region.
According to legend, Ionian Prince Androclos founded Ephesus in 11th-10th Century BC. Another legend says, Ephesus was founded by Amazons, a tribe of female warriors, and that city was named after their queen, Ephesia.
Throughout the history, Ephesus survived multiple attacks and changed hands many times between conquerors.
